Shock dyno charts for Xida.
Looking at the charts on the 949 racing page, it looks like making adjustments to the single adjustable shocks has a negligible effect on shock compression with the fronts having adjustment range between 150 and 165 lbs of force at max piston speed and the rears having 150 to 180 range with the lines pretty close together over the entire piston speed range... but the same adjustments make a huge difference on rebound! On the rebound the range is 380 to 630 on the fronts and 355 to 705 on the rears at the same max piston speed, with the lines diverging rapidly over the entire piston speed range.
The double adjustable have a similar rebound section of the chart, but the compression has much wider range of change than on the single adjustables. Now that I am researching this stuff I wish they had charts for the triple adjustabls! Let me know if I am all fucked up like a soup sandwich here :) Keith |
Generally, a single adjustable shock is just supposed to adjust rebound; that's what makes it single adjustable. Adjusting compression with the same knob is called crosstalk and it's undesirable. In the Xidas, it's there intentionally to allow them to handle a wider range of spring rates. Koni Sports, on the other hand, adjust rebound alone, so they stiffer settings are useless: to much rebound for soft springs, not enough compression for stiff springs.
So yeah, they're working as intended. Single adjustables adjust rebound, double adjustables adjust rebound and low speed compression, and triple adjustables adjust rebound, low speed compression, and high speed compression. |

Wow, an even wider range of adjustment on the rebound... this is an impressive setup! Can't wait for mine to ship :)

Me too.
Last I heard was May. I've got an event May 31. Hopefully I'll be on Xidas instead of Koni Sports. |
Emilio told me they're waiting The sets around may 25 so early locals could make it. I expect to be up and running ( corner weight and alignment) mid June. For now will try msm stock suspension as my old set is gone...
Happy to see the new chart! Wait will pay off. |
Gen 2's look more digressive than gen 1's.
|
Hmm.....double digressive valving. Do want!
|
I take it there's no conversion possibility from gen1 to gen2 when I need to get them revalved in the future?
|
I hope i can get mine in the next few weeks. My car has been on Jack stands since janurary/feb when I ordered Xidas and sold my bilstein setup. I've missed multiple track days & autox events nevermind can't drive my car. :(

EDIT: No affliation with 949 what so ever, none of his parts are on my car currently, never met the guy. That said 949racing has done more for the miata track community in the last 7ish years than anybody in the last 25 years of the car. He is a small specialty shop trying to get large companies to take his "small" orders seriously and in a timely fashion while delivery a quality track product. He is one of the only companies to actually track beat the shit out of his products before offering them for sale. Emilio will often come off as a dick in type and in person, he is not trying to be, he is just very factual, non sugar coat, straight to the answer. No one feels sad for you that you have to wait for your ubber bad ass shocks, so cry to your lover instead. You could always cancel your order and get something from ebay...lol |

Really? Been dealing with specialty boutique shops much? Probably should have left that $5-600 coilover on there until you got your new set?
Just put my old Koni setup back on the car so I can start driving it in anticipation of an event at the end of the month. I'm #1 on the list (according to Emilio), but still planning for early June. Things are happening fast though. Shocks at AST mid-month (week and a half away) then to 949 then out to us over the next couple of month or so. When I talked to Emilio, I could hear giddiness in his voice about the Gen 2s. They're going to be great. I'd guess in 3 months time we won't even remember there was a delay. Excite! |

AST can upgrade them to double digressive valving during rebuild time. It's not cheap. It maybe cheaper to sell yours and buy new ones.

I run tons of his parts and have been very happy with all of them. It seems like, all of his parts he only sells what he has or what he will have on hand besides Xidas which are ordered the month before then sent out the next month it's been like that for awhile. I anticipated march. so I sold my current suspension because the racing season in the Midwest doesn't start until May so I figured I'd be fine. There were supplier issues and orders kept getting pushed back... so there's a back log. I had the option to cancel but then what? My only other option was Ohlins raced valved with swift springs for another $500. Not really proven and a month wait. Emilio left me a VM today should be a few weeks I'll have them. Can't wait. |
