It might be hard to measure, but how often do these housings break? Is there any other benefit to the RX7 housing other than an increase in strength?

neogenesis2004 08-17-2009 06:19 PM

Do you need another benefit?.... The housing doesn't give you blow jobs. It just mounts the diff onto the car.

Do you see the word 'need' in my original question? I didn't think so. And while I might indeed -need- a blowjob, I understand that the housing does not offer that service. You might indeed -need- a beatdown, but I doubt that you are willing to allow me to help you with that. :fawk:

Indeed! And I asked a specific question, and instead got a nancyboyontherag answer back. If you equate ignorance as the same thing as stupidity, perhaps you should look at this post -after- you finish bleeding out?

Get them to just put in a new diff and keep the "scrap".

Ive seen the same thing happen to another guy with his 99. Same damage as yours, but he hit a pot hole.

so now i have a few choices. i just picked up a 3.9 torson and a 6 speed.
The 3.9 has to go in, at least until i fix the 4.3. But the question is; do i bother putting in the 6 speed yet, or just make it simple and stick with the 5 speed?
with the 5 speed, i would loose that bottom end grunt that i love, but i would have a lower highway rpm.

The 6 speed came without a shifter, my 5 speed shifter fits into the slot and works fine, but it looks like it is cocked to the right a bit. Is this normal for the 6 speeds? Or would it be preferable to get the stock 6speed unit?

i will install the diff tomorrow afternoon.

I was under the impression that the six speed shifter was different.

Nagase 08-26-2009 03:14 AM

Yes, the six speed requires its own shifter.

swimming108 08-26-2009 07:05 PM

well i tried it out, and the shifter from my 2000 5 speed seems to work just fine in this 2000 6 speed. So i am going to use it.

ok, so how do i disconnect the CVs from the hubs?

I was able to pull the axles from the differential just fine, but i can't seem to be able to get them to budge from the hub. I pulled the 32mm nut from the end and tried to hammer the cv out but no dice. Am i missing something?
