Spring Swap thread?

I posted here because it's suspension specific, but will understand if the thread is to be deleted or shifted to classifieds.

I know that years ago on Honda-Tech and for a moment on Nasioc there was a thread where people could offer up springs they no longer used or wanted to try. I was wondering if there were enough people who autocross/track their cars to facilitate this type of a thread here on MT.net.

For instance, I'll be acquiring a set of XIDA's soon, running 800#/500# springs. But I'm thinking that would be too stiff for New England roads for daily use and some autocross. I just didn't want to buy brandy new springs (just yet) if someone has some kicking around collecting dust.

I for one, like the idea of the "spring trader" thread

We just need more people posting what Springs they have laying around to get the trades going

Concealer, what springs have you laying about?

Neither of what you're looking for. :P

I failed, but i just moved, so i need to go through my pile 'o' parts anyways. I'll try to scare them up this weekend.

GOOD IDEA!!!

I'd be interested in a pair of 2.5"x6"x350lb springs.

I'll also have a set of mystery meat eBay springs and sleeves for sale pretty soon.

I have a set of springs from a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata with only ~13,000 miles for sale if anyone is interested.

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but you can calculate spring rates for your ebay springs that should be fairly close. You need only your spring's wire dia, OD, and free length. You can calculate it by hand, or use an online calculator; here's the one I just tried:
Coil Spring Rate Calculations by Wallace Racing

I used it on some known springs and it was close-ish right off the bat. To get closer, I found I had to subtract the thickness of the paint from the wire diameter and OD - I was surprised it made such a profound difference, but if you look at the formula the wire dia gets ^4. Subtracting .005" for paint (thus .010" for the wire dia and spring OD) brought the calcs to within 3 lbs/in.

Now, I'd still take any calcs like this with a grain of salt - not only did .005" make a difference of 30 lb/in, the spring material can also make a difference depending on what the modulus is.
