Steering quick release
Anyone fitted a steering quick release? Opinions on best option
|
I just sat in a miata with a slim quick release hub a couple hours ago with a momo wheel. Would be the best option IMO. Wheel only stuck out slightly farther than stock.

I have LTB's splined quick release with momo's hub and champion wheel. Its a great fit, looks great too. Couldn't get the horn button to fit though, and the blinkers/wipers/headlights are a bit farther away. None of this matters on a track except the wipers of course, which are just a little farther away, not impossible to reach.

I have the NRG slim quick release hub,it's great and has no play what so ever,it adds about a inch more to my MOMO wheel & hub,it's hardly noticeable.
I might switch over to the Tekniq quick release someday, but right now I'm happy with my current set-up. |
That interior looks nice, I need to throw away some more stuff.

I have Tekniq Autosport stuff, they make hubs and wheels. I bought a hub/wheel combo from them direct, they're a great company to deal with and they also have Sparco and Momo adapters.
TEKNIQ AutoSport - home I think I paid a spot over $200 shipped, they're a Canadian based company but shipping was fast. I lost my other key though so whatever key I have is what I have. To get a replacement key I have to actually get a whole new lock mechanism which costs some pennies. Makes me feel nice and secure though because not only are the pin spacing unique to each hub, the keys cannot be replicated very easily. |
We have an LTB weld-on here at the shop for an install on a Westfield. I like it, I think I'm going to put one on my Targa car. Being weld-on, I'll be able to install it without affecting the wheel placement. The only downside I see to the LTB part is that it's not keyed for a certain position, so you could easily get the wheel one spline off. Nothing a bit of attention and a dab of paint can't cure.

I always drive off with the wheel off center. Once I'm going straight, I grab the hub to keep the car going straight, and pull the wheel off and center it. Probably fairly dangerous, but I'm too lazy to use a dab of paint.
|
I have an NRG slim QR hub. Its ok...I wish I had the weld-on variety though.
|
Has anyone tried the NRG with the pull ring (v2.5) ?
NRG Innovations If so, how's the weight? Is it lighter than the old v1 NRG which is quite heavy? |
I use a Sweet Engineering steel hub with a Momo fighter wheel. Its a weld on so you can set the wheel placement however you desire. Its the same Hub used on a lot stock cars (NASCAR). They come in steel or aluminum.
|
I have the LTB one. I just center the wheel when I park and then put it back on. I think I've only gotten it a spline off once. I selected one of the longer ones specifically, because I wanted the wheel spaced closer to me. I haven't bothered to try to get the horn button to work, because I just don't care. FWIW, I have a Momo "Competition" wheel.

Every time I get near one of my coworkers cars with a QR wheel, I always pop it off and reinstall it off-center. It's my own way of saying hi.
I just ordered a weld-on LTB for the Targa car, I'm gonna pay for that series of pranks now. |
I'm running the NRG slim hub along with the NRG v2 QR with a Sparco Mugello. It puts the wheel about 0.5" closer to the driver.
I really like my setup, no play and you lock the wheel in you know its straight. |

I am soooooo in need of a QR soon! I'm getting too old and frail to pretzel past the door bars with the fixed steering wheel and fixed seat. ;)
