If you can afford xidas, the answer is pretty simple
Option 1: Delay turbo for another year, sell a bunch of ****, strain budget, buy Xidas, join cool kids club.

Option 2: Buy another similarly priced suspension, continue as scheduled.

Having not ridden in either, the decision is whether or not I want to splurge (with significant opportunity cost) based entirely on internet reviews.

I've been in cars with both the FM VMaxx Extreme Track Pack Bro Edition Yo Kit, and Xidas.

Xidas are obviously better.

The VMaxxs are surprisingly competent, however.

That said, i'm a fan of spending the money once.

I wish companies would not take pre-orders on products before having an approved and tested first article products. The first article inspection verifies the capabilities and quality of the supplier and approves them for production. Especially when they charge your credit card up front rather than at the time of shipping.

Supplier delay issues due to unforeseen circumstances like the 6UL isn't a huge issue but needing a new supplier after pre-selling to the public shouldn't happen in my opinion.

Didn't something similar happen with the Rev or Rev9 wheels from 949? Everyone was giddy about it for a long time and it never happened. I hope this eventually happens though.

I was under the impression that the initial units from the supplier checked out good. But the production run didnt check out, as seems the norm with asian suppliers.

That's probably the case. Maybe if there is any questionability in a new supplier, a better look should be taken about taking pre-sell orders. I would be pretty damn upset if I waited 4+ month for new suspension with delay after delay and finally a cancellation.

It looks like the struggle is pretty real with smaller companies and manufacturing.

Look at Bill/MR and the ring/pinion catastrophe, appears to be exactly same as this.

Yep.

300zxrb26dett just ran into a somewhat similar issue on ClubProtege for suspension parts that we were really looking forward to.

To me, that case is slightly different. People who bought into that group buy knew they were ordering something that was in the R&D phase with no guaranteed ship date, just a rough estimate. People buying the Tecna expected them to be in the production phase just awaiting the shipment.

949 Racing makes some excellent products and is major part of the miata community. I just wish they could get their on time delivery on track and not over promise on delivery estimates.

Negative. That was a group buy, there needed to be a certain number of people for a limited batch of parts to be produced, thus presale / down payment.
IMHO, a custom set of gears. While still annoying, it's not much like this. These aren't custom parts and there is going to be more than 30 of them made.

I think we'll see less of the pre-pay stuff from 949 in the future. I know I won't be doing it again. I was offered a discount on Xidas for my troubles, which would take a little out of the sting of going from a $800 shock/spring combo to a $2000 one. Forgot to mention that farther upthread.

I personally would have jumped on that offer of the discount on the Xida's because even if you didn't have all the money now I am sure they would give you a "raincheck" on that discount.

To put this to rest. After a too long R&D cycle, the prototypes were finally good, but had a few seemingly minor issues remaining. The factory dragged their getting those minor issues resolved, thus the delay. In the end, we lost confidence we could get these minor issues resolved in a timely fashion. So we refunded everyone instead of shipping something we felt was still "close but not quite" in fall 2014. It's unfortunate but I felt it was the best course of action for my customers. As this product announcement thread no longer serves any useful purpose, I will no longer post in it.

When we complete the project and have the fully dialed product in stock, we will start a new thread. There is no ETA or other information on this project to be published at this time.

I guess i'd rather the delay than get shipped some junk. I trust 949 for a quality product, which is why i spent my money with them when real life reviews from customers didn't exist.

I really hope they haven't given up on producing these.

I just can't talk myself in to spending the extra for Xida's for a daily driver that may see the track two to three times a year.
