What suspension do you have? You don't have anything listed in your sig. You would be better off with upgraded shocks, springs, and sways than with the larger brakes.

suspension is stock for now (besides some bracing). konis, GCs and a fat front sway bar are already planned. depending on the fitment of the wilwoods, I can splurge more or less on suspension (read: FCM stuff)

It does not SEEM silly to do so. It IS silly to do so. I assume you have a rollbar already, even though it's not listed in your sig, because without a rollbar you can't go to the track, and if you are fading high-temp street pads in your stock brakes you drive like a cock. Upgrade your suspension first, because you don't need a BBK.

I agree that the roll bar/suspension should definitely be addressed first, plus you will have more fun with upgraded suspension than upgraded brakes.

But... Savington, I see where you are coming from, but on a really steep, twisty, all downhill canyon it is quite possible to fade performance pads. I faded my axxis ultimates on one of my favorite all downhill one way canyons without driving too much like a "cock".

I highly doubt comparing Axxis Ultimates to a full race pad like what Carbotech offers is a fair comparison. If you faded Axxis then woohoo you're like 90% of everyone that has run them aggressively for long durations under intense braking.

The only reason I brought up the ultimates is sav said "high-temp street pads", maybe I misunderstood.

And the pedal felt like it wasn't doing what it was meant to, and I had a hell of an "oh shit!" moment as I pushed down more coming to the end of a short straight and more and not much happened. Thats fade, right?

Speed $ on driving lessons / track events if you're have brake issues with stock brakes. Think of all the Spec Miatas out there running on stock brakes with dot race tires, trick suspension, trick engines and managing with the stock brakes.

if you don't have enough brake, then get sport brakes and save a shitload of money. The only advantage those wilwoods give is weight.

No they won't fit, and all of the bolts will be seized in place on your wheels and calipers until you order some new suspension. The second you place that order then all of the bolts will loosen up and the brakes will fit nicely like they do for most people running 15" wheels with BBKs.

If you then cancel the order to try and mess with the technicalities of it all, your car will explode.

2. was it more of a firm pedal or a soft pedal when the brakes stopped working? It's a very important distinction.

I have to agree with everyone here. The 1.8 setup is pretty damn sufficient at stopping a miata as long as you have enough rubber, and the proper hardware. Not many people on here really warrant a BBK for the cost.
