Tein Flex Height And Setup Issue
Yes, this is my first post. Yes, I know how to search forums. I have searched several and can't find a straight answer. I installed my tein street flex (no longer manufactured for miata) from tein using the tein installation guide. So far, I have only put in the rear coils. These were picked up on craigslist and were supposedly used for 200ish miles. They appear to be brand new. The four measurements specified by Tein are as should be. I then proceeded to thread up the bottom portion of the coilover as far as it seemingly would go, at which point the coilover was give or take 3 inches shorter than the stock one that was removed. There is about 2.5 inches of thread left between the bottom collar and the upper two. I installed, and the car was only lowered 2-2.5 inches. I have seen pictures of people completely slammed on tein flex, and I personally am looking to go at least 3-4 inches lower. Am I doing something wrong? I can't see how adjusting the upper collars would change the ride height, as it's a solid threaded shaft for the entire coilover. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not trying to be an annoying stance kid. I do actually need help with the setup I guess. The tein manual is confusing. But can anyone confirm that there is or isn't a way to adjust heigh on twin street flex other than spinning the bottom collar up? I can't find a good answer on any forum. Here is a picture , as low as I could get them. I think most people will agree that you can sensibly go a couple inches lower.

I like how nowadays if youre not tucking tire youre not even close to "low". All the cool kids are dragging the chassis on anything other than the flattest of surfaces.

Okay. Disregard my initial post then. What I would like to know is whether or not there is a way to adjust ride height aside from the bottom collar, on the tein street flex coil overs. That's all folks. Pretend I am trying to raise the car if you want... Just looking for a helpful answer regarding that question.

I don't run auto cross or track. I personally like the look of the car a couple inches lower than it is right now. I can be flamed to no end for this but it isn't going to change for me. Hopefully this forum will provide slightly more useful information regarding tuning megasquirt, and fuel questions. also have the begi shanghai kit to go in, and an mspnp2. It IS going to be a performance oriented car, it's just a personal preference. I really have nothing else to say. I haven't learned anything useful here so far and I think it's unfortunate that you guys can't be accepting of cars that are lower than your preference. After all we are all trying to do the same thing; have fun with our cars.

FINE.
Measure the diameter and length of the springs, and then buy some that are shorter. Theyre not even very expensive and can be sources from places like summit racing or speedway motors. |

The picture is an example of being a lot lower than what I wanted. But either way thanks. I didn't think the preload adjustment would affect the height but I guess if shorter springs do, then it would. It's much too soft as is anyhow so I probably have some room to work with either way

You can't go lower than what you have now without having zero compression travel.
You are fucking retarded if you think that is performance orientated in any way. We won't hold your hand and tell you it's alright over here. May as well just come out of the closet and go hang out over at CR. I'll even make you a deal, I'll trade you my ricelands for those tiens, then you can ride around with no suspension travel without buying springs. Tiens don't use 2.5" springs, at least I don't think they do, so have fun with that. |
So you have shortened the shock body by loosening the lower jam ring and screwing the lower shock body all the way in? Have you also adjusted the spring perch?
