The Bilsteins are as high quality an item as you can hope for. Unfortunately, the Bilsteins supplied as both OEM and aftermarket for the NA series are valved completely wrong for American roads.

If you wander over to Miata.net and peruse their suspension forum you'll probably find more accolades for re-valved Bilsteins than for Teins; it's simply a matter of audience.

I doubt you'll be anything but thrilled by a set of FCM re-valves. I have a set and other than their lack of adjust-ability (which might actually be a plus) they're just about spot on. I haven't driven on Teins, so they're an unknown to me, though I've read mixed reviews of some of their lesser grades. I've never read a negative review of FCM re-valves.

Another alternative are the Stewart Development re-valves for $700 a set of four. Here's the link:

Reviews so far are very positive and I'll likely take this approach to my next suspension. Why? Because they're Bilsteins, they're custom valved for my particular setup and driving needs, and they're relatively affordable.

Eddy at Adrenaline racing put a set of the Tein Monotubes in one of their cars recently. With ES hyperflex bushings that suspension is REALLY nice. Smooth on the street, way better damped than my older Tein RA's. He's running 10/6 for springs and it's just plain smooth and responsive. Very compliant.

I HATE to do it, but I may even redo the bushings while I'm at it. I have pretty new OEM ones, maybe 20k miles on them, but I really wish I had gone with something like a set of ES. Would have cost a lot less, and worked better for my plans. Not sure why I did the OEM looking back.

Does any one know how low of a ride height you can get out of the monoflex? Tein says that they have equal adjustability but I have heard that the normal flex's go lower than what is shown on the spec sheet. any thoughts?

Dear god, you couldn't drive anywhere around Alabama without snagging on a lump of concrete from a failed road patch, or a man hole cover, or speed bump.

Now that I'm lower it for sure makes for some interesting driving. Luckily I have a 00 grand Cherokee for a DD. I Noe look ahead like a freaking mile for any hazzards. I only drive it if I know I'm only going on safe roads.

So umm... why not bring it back up an inch or two so it's actually enjoyable to drive? Mine is probably 2 inches higher, and still is a pain in the ass and I pucked my ass every time I see anything in the road, or any kind of bump. I hit a dead cat in the road a few weeks ago, and even though it was already run over, my front cross memeber or oil pan snagged it's skull and shot a puff of fur into the air, and I'm sure guts onto my undercarriage. I wouldn't even want to drive it if it was that low. To each their own, I guess.

It's still driveable just have to pay more attention, and once I get my new rims it'll be a bit higher from that. Plus I think it's fun the way it is.
