For those with Toyo T1R's

Whats your experience with them in the rain. Its raining here now and it will be all day tomorrow too. I had the 6UL's fitted with T1R's and I'm just curious as to how they do in the rain. I'm not looking to race anyone in the wet, just wondering if they are complete shit or decent enough that I don't have to worry.

Thanks :bigtu:

Mine aren't too bad. I dd my car in Seattle, so they see plenty of rain :).

TurboTim 11-19-2009 04:41 PM

Mine were always pretty good but I've only ever run toyos.

96rdstr 11-19-2009 04:50 PM

Never had a single issue with the T1Rs down here in FL. I thought they were grippy in the rain.

Vashthestampede 11-19-2009 05:14 PM

Cool, good to hear. Just getting back into the car after close to 2 years has me nervous about everything. I changed so many things at once I feel like everything is different. The tires had me worried, I'm glad to hear they are good in the rain.

I still might go to a parking lot and see just how "much" makes them start slipping. :)

Laur3ns 11-19-2009 05:56 PM

With enough thread pretty good in wet. On track in the dry pretty shitty with >200hp.

Vashthestampede 11-20-2009 08:40 AM

First night/morning in the rain and I'm happy to report the T1R's feel very good on the wet roads. :)

Toyo is win every time

Mach929 11-20-2009 09:26 AM

mine are great in the rain compared to azenis

MicaCeli 11-20-2009 09:40 AM

When you get a chance switch to the R1R's. The wet traction is just crazy.

Wife driving on 225/45/15 R1R's.

swimming108 11-20-2009 09:47 AM

i have 215/45/15 T1Rs on my 15x8 6uls. they are incredibly much better in the wet than my all seasons.

MicaCeli-holy crap those R1Rs are great in the rain! do you know how they compare to the Hankook RS3? Where and when was that autox?

MicaCeli 11-20-2009 09:57 AM

Autocrossers Inc event at FedEx field. One of the first one's this year. The tires were full tread at the time as they should be for wet. As the tread wore they were less grippy in the rain but at full to half tread they were just unreal, it felt like driving in the dry.

I am going to run the 225 Hankooks next year shaved I think as they did very well in the comparo's. 205 R1R's for the rain and maybe some other tire at the same time.

swimming108 11-20-2009 10:03 AM

i hope to see you there at some point, and hopefully i will heve rs3s as well by then. Are there any autoxs in Frederick?

MicaCeli 11-20-2009 10:08 AM

I am FedEx for all the events usualy. AI and SCCA. I might be going to some of the PA events since I'm so close like Hershey and such.

Yes CDC (Capital Driving Club) Runs some Frederick Events. The are small and have no classes. So I run an STS prepped 100hp MR2 against 500hp Cobras on 305 Hoosiers :) But it's fun and close to me.

saint_foo 11-20-2009 10:29 AM

swimmin: we've got 2 autoxes this weekend at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick. I'm an organizer there and will have my turbo Miata w/ R1Rs (225/45/15) there. Thanks mica celi for recommending them. They're a good street tire. Rain traction is pretty darn good...but I have problems when I tip into boost during heavy rain. Dunno if there's a better tire out there for those conditions.

swimming108 11-20-2009 10:37 AM

st foo, you need to put your location in your sig. can you pm me info about this autox? do i need to pre register or is it less formal than that?

capitaldrivingclub.com > register tab > pick date, and click link. Fill in, pay at event when you show up.

It's pretty laidback compared to SCCA/AI events. We typically have smaller lots, but tend to do 35-50 second courses. We offer 6 runs (3 a.m./3 p.m.) broken up into 3-4 heats that run morning and afternoon. IF you only want to do morning (or afternoon) only, we'll give 4 runs in that heat.

I also tend to work the grill so you can easily find me.

I will stop by on Sat for that event as I need to get something from a guy that will be there.

MicaCeli 11-20-2009 11:59 AM

Swimmin you are like 36 miles from Frederick. Do it. I live about 9 miles north of Frederick off of 15....so close also.

Looks like I will be there driving. Wife will be drinking all day with other chicks.

swimming108 11-20-2009 02:59 PM

looks like i will show up this weekend. Will be there on Sunday and will be bringing my Dad with me.

swimming108 11-20-2009 03:34 PM

lol, ya. i admit i am a nerd. (watching dragonball right now)

Vashthestampede 11-29-2009 03:44 PM

Just wanted to update this for those interested.

The tires are TITS. I'm very happy to say that they outperform any other tire I have had so far in the rain. No problems with traction, city or highway driving. I didn't really push them or anything, but I was finally able to drive the car without fear of spinning out.

And in dry conditions they feel excellent. Far better grip than any other tire I have tried. Now I just need a good set of winter tires in case I end up driving this thing throughout the winter.

swimming108 11-30-2009 06:54 AM

they are pretty nice in the rain huh. I found that they suck a bit in autox though. can't wait to try the r1r when i get some $$$

DazedandConfused 12-10-2009 12:39 PM

okay, I just tried to order some R1R's today from performancetire but they are outta stock for another 6-8 weeks and they are one of the only people that carry it with free shipping that I could find.

No local store carries Toyo, and R1R's seem to be hard to get from the people that DO carry Toyo.

Can anyone recommend a good option for me? Maybe a tire that is around same price range and same performance/tread wear? Im not sure what tires are daily drivers that offer great performance.

BushWhacker 12-10-2009 12:52 PM

Better in the rain than the Proxes 4

DazedandConfused 12-10-2009 12:55 PM

Would the Kumho Ecsta MX be a decent substitute for the R1R if I cant get Toyo?
