Thoughts on Yonaka coilovers?
 

Hey everyone, im currently running koni yellows with adjustable dampening on lowering springs, handles good. not sure current springs, or spring rates.

thoughts on upgrading to Yonaka coilovers?

Spring rates are as follows:
Front springs: 6kg
Rear springs: 4kg

Look exactly like everything else in the price point. now with 6 extra useless points of adjusting.

alright thanks for the fast reply, car will be used for tracking and driven on the street, i want to handle very well on the track, willing to jeopardize street comfort. Im just curious if its enough of an upgrade from what im currently riding on.

330/250lb springs should get the tires rubbing nicely too. They should work well with a welded diff.

lol... close, it's 350/250, welded diff, and uhp street tires makes the combo.

op honestly, i would just buy ground control's with 450/300 springs. koni's are better than yokaka's. those rates will handle up to ra1's and won't beat you up too bad.

I sell Yonaka products and their coilovers have had a really good track record so far. I haven't sold a miata set yet but a few integra kits. I would definitely recommend them.

Don't ruin the debut of my "Placebo Racing" coilovers with 100 adjustable clicks.

Each click makes you faster-er.

Not bad for the price, I've driven on them with those rates, comfortable drive and competent in the corners.

I assume they are exactly the same as the Yonakas.

I would pick in favor of repeatable consistency at all four corners vs. features and flamboyance at similar price points. IMO bilsteins, thread collars and some name-brand coil over springs are the best budget package going.

2nd'd, personally I'd go with higher rates... 600/400 is what is normal around here on koni yellows, its really not bad at all on the street. If you call ground control they can talk you through what rates you might want.

well like i said my current setup is koni yellows with unknown springs, and unknown rates.
they are at least 4 years old, and i got them off a car i bought.

i found a set of Yonakas for sale, and was wondering if they handle better, i will not be paying 1100$ for the yonakas if that is the deciding factor. its all about what will handle better/better setup.

at the track i will be running 15" RA1's.

GC also told me not to run lower rates on my Bilsteins like I'm running today. The rates they suggested made me car sick for the first time in my life on a road trip. I don't get sea sick, I don't get car sick, but those spings/shocks they recommended were so rough that I became nauseated.

I hope by yellows you mean race. I'm rocking 400/250 on the sports and it's not much to write home about. Valving is more or less maxed it's pretty harsh.

I'm not a fan of konis anymore after driving on other solutions. they are a great shock for stock springs...

Brain, you're about the only person I have read about that doesn't like Koni's with stiffer springs.
I run 450/275 on the sports and love the way it rides. It is harsh over the small stuff but that probably has more to do with the 15X9's and RS3's than the Koni sports. An excellent dual purpose setup.

OP, sorry I have never ridden in a Miata with the Yonaka shocks before.

drive on something better...with more extreme rates.

I didn't like the Konis on any spring rate higher than the STechs either. After running a set with a few different spring setups I can't for the life of me understand why they're all the rage on m.net. Harsh, and bumpy pavement in corners made the car feel like a giant skipping stone. Had much better success with Bilsteins, even the OEM valved ones.

OP:

Either round up some Billies and make your own spring setup, or save a little more and get at least the Tein SS. Proper damping makes a world of difference. I really miss mine, as it was the only setup in about ten that I'd tried that was all around fantastic on my car for the street. A few other setups handled better, and one (close to stock rates) may have been more comfortable...but the Tein was the best all around...absolute magic. I got a nearly new used set for only $100 more than the crap you're looking at, and retail isn't too much higher.
