Default What to do with my wheel options?

My 225/45 RS2's on my nickel 15x8 6ul's are toast. Pulled the tires off and now is the time to make some choices.

The 6uls I bought from a racer and he never cleaned them. 2 of the wheels have significant damage to the finish from brake dust. One is like new and one is decent. I love the nickel finish but don't see a DIY way to duplicate it.

I have a set of Kosei K1's in 15x7 I currently have my track tires on. Those tires are pretty much done too. Wheels are white but in perfect condition.

I have a new set of 205/50 race tires on hand to mount up.

Options....

Put the race rubber on the 6uls, not worry about the crappy finish on them and run the white kosei's with new street tires.

Keep the Kosei's as race wheels and refinish the 6uls in rattle can bronze/silver/graphite, which I don't like as much as the nickel, and put street rubber on them.

Find someone who can do a nickel refinish on the 6uls and keep them with street tires.

6uls for the track and refinish the white but otherwise perfect paint on the kosei's, to a more attractive silver/bronze/graphite for the street.

Sell it all and join a convent since I'm obviously in need of spiritual and sexual guidance asking these questions?

Track rubbers on the 6ULs. Wheels are tools, not bling.

Says the man with three sets of them.

I wouldn't worry about finish either.

Obviously I'm not too concerned about image, I drive a 15 year old Miata, but I appreciate good looking AND functional wheels like the 6uls. It's not like the Kosei's are crap for the track either.

Do 205/50 track tires OK fit well on a 8" 6ul or will they look a little stretched?

205 would work well on a 15x8.

Seeing as many run 225's on 15x9's, I think that would be perfect.

Koseis for the street...anyone with any wheel knowledge will recognize them and you will still have your coolness factor.

(says the guy running SSRs on the street and Rotas on the track)

I have 205 Nitto Neo Gens and they look perfect on the 8". I selected that tire because they are the same width as the 205 NT-01 (according to the Nitto site) and we all know that size looks good on an 8. Both tires are the widest 205's I've seen. Besides, you can get the nest set at 225" for basically the same price. The difference in grip is night and day.

Interesting facts about tire size ****:
when stacked, 3 15x8/205's are taller than 4 205nt-01's on 99 wheels
just the 15x9 wheel is 3" wider than a 99 wheel with 205 NT's
I'm the **** and get tons of bitches
the 205 Neogen and NT-01 is almost as wide as 225 RS-2
my garage looks like a tire shop. There are 4 EXTRA sets of mounted tires in there, and a spare set of 225 NT-01's.

I think a little "patina" on the 6UL looks great.

If I had a black miata, I'd have one of my multiple 6UL sets in kelly-green or lime-green.

OK. Kosei's for the street it is! Thanks for the overwhelming input in favor of that. Makes the decision easy.

The black base coat showing in lots of places from scrapes, scuffs and corrosion go a little beyond "patina".

Do I run them in the factory white on my black car which I like on the track but not so much on the street or do I give em a coat of paint. I've already got silver, graphite and bronze wheel paint laying around. I'd like any of them better than the white. My only hesitation is the wheels are stinking perfect. Hardly a scratch on them. Rattle canning over perfect factory paint kinda rubs me wrong.

Track wheels something outrageous.

Track wheels are going to stay corroded Nickel! If I kept the 6uls' as street wheels then I'd paint them.

I liked the bright white Kosei's for the track but on the street I think they are fugly.

Yeah, I share that sentiment...I'd never do anything like that on my black street car.

I was about to repaint daisies...and have black, silver and graphite. That's as far as I'd get with choices. I considered bronze for a bit, but would clash with the chrome accents on a black NA.

I was only going to do the black with a polished rim. Your Koseis don't have enough of a rim so you should of course go solid. Didn't Braineack paint a set silver that you can 'shop onto your car?

With the sexual favors I'd require to "give" them too you, you might complain about scratches!

Hmmm.....

No.

I'm too old, too conservative and too slow to do red/orange/pink/green/yellow/blue track wheels. If I was fast as hell I could see it. I drive like a middle aged guy with moderate skills who doesn't want to die, not like the Stig.

Its amazing how two wheel so similar can look so different. That orange wheel is heinous and the red one is gorgeous.

Careful. Those orange wheels look to be about the color of Sav's entire interior!
