Tire selection on a 1500hp Miata...

So I've got this friend who's building a 1500hp Miata and we can't decide on what tires to run. There were many choices but I've narrowed it down to 2...

30x13.5x15 Mickey Thompson Drag Radials OR 31x16.5x15 ET Streets

Fender rolling is NOT an option.
This is a street-driven car and we're on the fence about it, so what do you think?

Ive herd really good things about this tire, and I would recommend it in that size.

serious as a top fuel dragster accident... the dude building the car is insane, but in a good way.

cardriverx 07-03-2008 02:37 AM

well in that case no god could even help you get traction. i suggest drag slicks and lots of superglue.

you have to put flares on the car!

KPLAFIN 07-03-2008 02:43 AM

1500 horses, no flares, no rolling, street driven.....

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

Good luck

What type of motor is going to be in this car by the way?

if i recall it's a twin turbo, nitrous fead, 383 stroker. or something like that.

zoom2zoom 07-03-2008 03:18 AM

sounds impressive, is fead even a word??

Arkmage 07-03-2008 03:21 AM

no "a"

KPLAFIN 07-03-2008 03:28 AM

I guess it's possible if the 1500 will be reached with nitrous providing he's running a huge freaking shot and staying out of boost and off the spray as long as he's on the street, otherwise good luck with traction....maybe a spare 5.0 in the trunk to help add weight to the back end? :giggle:

cardriverx 07-03-2008 03:33 AM

Eh im just jelous, id rock 1500 hp in a miata if I had the monies. I could only imangine the feeling of punching it in 5th gear and going sideways...

zoom2zoom 07-03-2008 03:35 AM

Seeing is believing.

Ben 07-03-2008 07:42 AM

no use in making all that power if it's not going to have the appropriate body mods to run huge rear wheels.

fmowry 07-03-2008 07:55 AM

I'd be more worried about a clutch.

Why doesn't Mikef85 just post himself and ask?

Meh, probably doesnt want to deal with a bunch of questions.

patsmx5 07-03-2008 09:19 AM

MT Drag Radials. And he's not gonna roll the fenders.

Braineack 07-03-2008 09:28 AM

Anyone care for a bucket of fail? If it were me....I'd be looking closely at replicating the tubular miata....

paul 07-03-2008 09:29 AM

yeah, i'm thinking epic frame twist

kotomile 07-03-2008 09:57 AM

With those tires, IMO it will come down to gearing to determine which performs best. For example, the shorter tire might have him shifting once more during the run vs. the taller tire not shifting that extra time.
