Default Symptoms of a loose/broken clutch spring

As per the title, what are the symptoms?

Tough to engage gears?
Rattling noise that is RPM dependant (mine is silent until 3k, irrespective of load)?
Vibration through the drivetrain again RPM dependant irrespective of load (4k in my case)?

If these are typical symptoms, and I have to pull the engine again to fix it, can I just remove the offending spring and put the thing back together? It's a ***** fix I know, but I just don't have the spare £ to replace the clutch which is otherwise working perfectly.

Thanks
