Torsen question
I got my diff from a '94. Verified that it was a Torsen.
For a while, couldn't really "feel" the two wheels gripping... Now, I'm hearing this chunk-chunk sound that varies with speed, seemingly coming from left rear. Jacked up the car, tried to spin left rear. The drive shaft spins, but the right rear stays motionless. Tried to spin right rear, and both left tire and driveshaft are still. Started the engine, put the car in gear, and right rear spins, but left wheel is doing this very slow-mo jerking motion, like it's trying to catch up. I can easily spin the left rear in either direction as its doing that. Same thing in reverse. So, question for the knowledgeable masses. Is that a shot Torsen? Is my test flawed? |
Yes your test is flawed.
Torsens act like a open diff when one wheel is unloaded. |
that is true, but when you spin one wheel, the other wheel should spin in the opposite direction.
i'm going to ask you again (did so in other thread already), sure it's a torsen? |

I bought the Torsen per Joe Perez instructions. Called junk yard, got the VIN, called Mazda USA, verified that the car came with Torsen, before paying, looked inside to find no spider gears, gotta be a Torsen, right? |
its a torsen then yeah.
