vehicle speed sensor SEARCH
 

Hello,
I am driving a 1993 turbocharged miata.
I have changed my transmission from a 5gear gearbox + 4.3 differential to a 6gear gearbox + 3.6 differential.
My new parts comes from an NB (10th anniversary).
The problem is now, that my old vehicle speed sensor is mechanical and the NB uses an electronical sensor.

Does someone know a solution for me?

A mechanical sensor fits in the same hole as the electric sensor. You will just need to find one that works with the 3.6 rear end.

If you reuse your original sensor your speedo will be way off though.

If you search around enough on here I am sure you can find a thread that tells you which speed sensor you need. I know it has been talked about several times.

Buy these 5 parts:

1011-17-442A - This is the sleeve/housing that will position the gear in the proper location to engage the gear within the transmission. If the sleeve that comes...[from a 4.3 diff]...is used, the smaller...[3.6]...gear will be free-floating and will not engage. Thus, no readings.
M502-17-441 - This is the actual gear.
9922-20-214 - Spring Pin for holding the gear in the sleeve.
9958-60-8166 - Oil Seal for inside the sleeve.
1011-17-443 - O-Ring for the outside of the sleeve.

But you have to understand that it is NOT that easy to understand what you guys write collocation/adage.

So if i buy these 5 items, I can rebuild my original mechanical 4.300 sensor to a mechanical sensor that gives the right rpm's from to my new 3.600 differential to my tachometer?!
Am I right?

If you buy those 5 items, you can throw away your old mechanical sensor. Those 5 items are what you will need to build the new mechanical 'sensor'. 3 of the parts you can 'technically' pull off the old sensor, but they are the cheap parts. They are also parts you will want to replace anyways:

Seal
O-Ring
Spring Pin

Grand total for these is likely less than $5

The other 2 parts are the actual items that you need to replace to get your speedo to work right:
Speedo Gear
Speedo Gear Locater Sleeve

The speedo Gear is literally the thing with teeth on it.
The locator sleeve changes where the speedo gear is held. Since you will be using a much smaller speedo gear, the new sleeve has to hold your speedo gear a lot closer to the worm gear in the transmission in order to engage.

Grand total for these 2 parts: Probably about $30



Once you have the new gear assy. built, simply remove the 10mm bolt holding the old assy. in place, insert new assy. and replace 10mm bolt. Your speedo cable will screw right on.

Good deal, you're only about 3.5 hours away from where I'm at, there's a couple other members from Germany that I'm pretty sure are a little closer than me but if you've ever got any big projects you need help with drop me a line.

I think it may be all in the tach but figured I'd throw it out there for someone who knows more than me to think about.

The only difference in the speed sensing of a US Spec (MPH) and a "everyone else Spec" (KPH) car should be the face of the speedometer.

Those are the mazda part numbers listed in the parts catalogue. Any mazda dealer should be able to hook you up.
