Viscous LSD, worth it?
I have a '95 Miata project that is a 1-wheel burn-out machine. I already have a turbo kit about to go on so it's going to get much worse. I just came across this add, what do you guys think? Ok deal?
I'm parting out my 93 LE (115k miles), which has (had) a VLSD rear diff. So, I have the pumpkin with stub shafts in it, both axles (with ABS rings), and the driveshaft. If you want to put this into a 1.8 (94+) car, you'll need everything. If you're putting it into a 1.6 (90-93), you'll just need the pumpkin. I'll sell everything together for 325$, or the VLSD pumpkin alone for 275$. Any help would be appreciated. |
No. The 1.6 diffs can break under stock power. You can get a torsen pumpkin for around the same price and have a much better unit. You don't need the axles and driveshaft since you already have the larger 1.8 setup to use a torsen.

The common consensus on this forum seems to be that the 1.6 differentials aren't even worth the time to install them at stock power.
Considering your signature says that you have 220HP or are goaling for 220HP, I would strongly recommend against it. I run a 1.6VLSD myself (temporarily) at a much lower HP level, and I am already having to look for a new one after a few thousand miles of boost. |

Any help would be appreciated. 1. Get better tires and alignment 1a. Stop clutch dumping 2. You have a 7" ring gear that can stand the abuse. 2a. The 1.6L rearend is 6" and will shatter. 3. the VLSD will behave just like an open. |
