What brake pads?
I did a search and couldn't find the appropriate answer so I found this: eBay Motors: Mazda Miata 94-03 Kevlar Ceramic Brake Pad F&R (item 110373573402 end time May-05-09 19:27:11 PDT)
I need to buy some brake pads. I read about the hawks but those look to be too much for tracking only. I bought the front ones locally and they're a piece of shit! I need some suggestions. Thanks |
Hawk is a brand, and they make many different types of pads. The race pads you're referring to are hawk blue or black pads. They also have HP+ and HPS, each having different purposes. Try searching harder, much harder.

I was VERY happy with the Carbotech pads I bought for the leMon race car. Check them out.

Thanks man |
I've been more than happy with HP+s on the street. but they can be noisy (like any GOOD pad).
|
I love the Hawk HP+ as an aggressive street/autocross pad. They will stop you well, but are still great for pedal feel and modulation. They are a night and day improvement over stock pads. Some people say they dust a little more, and they do, but function is always my primary concern and they are muy bueno for that. And I really think they dusted less than my super cheap auto parts store pads that worked very poorly. Good luck.
|
I like HP+ if you drive like a pussy on the track or do the auto-x thing. However, they screwed up my '99 wheels enough that I will not run them on my 6ULs.

So Hawk HP it is then.
Thanks. I don't care too much about dust but the cheap ones I was forced to buy locally are just shitty. They are just not up to the standard. I still need someone to answer the original question: has anyone tried the "kevlar" reinforced ones? I may still pick those up too and try them. BTW Scott; that Corrado mod looks really nice! |
HP+ not HPS.
|
Would a good balance combo be to put a set of HP+ on the rear if I run the Axxis Ultimates up front?
|
the FM brake valve kit is worth every cent, 2x over. If I would have known how much shorter stops were, and how much I could change the characteristics on the car, I would have added the brake valve a long time ago.
|
Damnit, saw one on craigslist a while back, knew I should have bought it.
So: propvalve > trying to match pads for balance ? |
You want a prop valve. Badly. My brakes are fantastic right now (corrado front, 1.8 rear, wilwood valve, 12/10s). I can feel the rear squirming around, but the fronts lock first.
|
I've had XP8's on the front <a month and one trackday. Great track pads, so far, but they do squeal on the street.
Proportioning valve is on the shopping list. Chris |
