I know we've probably discussed this before, but, I'm looking for a set of pads that's aggressive, but a little more subdued for everyday street driving. I love the bite of my HP+s, however, I'm done with the noise they make.

I've tried everylittle trick in the books to reduce the noise, but I can't kepe the fronts quite.

I have the red anti-squeal between the pad and the caliper, so they are essentially glued to it. I have the shims, new brake hardware with springs, and used anti-seize where the pads rest in the brackets. Once they get warm, they just make too much noise. I can't deal with it anymore.

I'm just looking to see what else is out there. I've heard good things about the RS4s, and ultimates, but I just dunno anything but HP+s.

Got reccomendations? Dust I can deal with, the noise I can't. But I need something with BITE!

I have had good luck with Axxis Ultimates not being noisy. My Carbotech XP12s on my track car, well not so much.

I like the price of the Ultimates. I wish I knew the coefficents of everything. Axxis doens't give raw numbers, but shows a really good cold bite.

I think I've run through 3 sets of Ultimates. They're excellent pads for everything except dust. They never make a peep and they bite fine on that first stop of the morning. But they dust like mad.

+1 for axxis ultimates. I'm running them right now. They are great for the street, but I wouldn't run them again at a track day. They don't like repeated abuse, but for DD they are great. They inspire much confidence when you are trying to catch that green light that leads into a sweeping left hand 90 before the light turns. You guys know what I'm talking about

I found this quote and it describes them perfectly: Street driving allows them to cool enough so they are always ready to bite. I'm also using the PBR branded version http://www.getcoolparts.com

+1 for the Ultimates for being quiet and good bite. I used them, but now I have HP+ for the street. I don't know why, but I like the squeal...I'm a bit of a ricer at heart.

So long as they aren't noisey. I can get them for $54 shipped. doing a quick search people really seem to like them.

I'd like try HPS again, but I had a bad experience with them. When i still had stock 1.6L brakes, I put HPSs on, bedded them in and was never happy with them, they never seemed to have enough coeffiecnt and it took effort to lock the tires. First panic stop from >80mph was NOT fun, they glazed right over. I upgraded to HP+ and 1.8L rotors the next week.

I just need something I can autox with from time to time, but even OEM pads would suffice for that. I REALLY LIKE the HP+, but I can't handle the noise anymore.

You'll like the Ultimates. The problem with squealing brakes is that no one hears it when you pull up next to them and says, "Man, that guy is running some high performance brake pads."

It's more like, "Why don't you fix the brakes on your POS car?"

I really dont care what others think, but they ONLY squeal when I'm slowly stopping at red lights. Like <5mph.

So they squeal when I'm driving around slowly where I most notice them, and that speed is where I use them the most, like driving around parking lots. They make my ears bleed how loud they resonate.

Its gotten to the point where I just slam on my brakes at the last second stopping at lights hoping I dont get rear ended

That was my solution when I had the hawk blacks. The squeal gets unbearable.

Just ordered the PBR ULTs. $54 shipped, best price I could find when comparing HPS, Greenstuff and R4S.

My the solution I had previous was installing $20 Duralast pads...the worst brake pad I've ever run, but quite!

I also run the HP+'s and am really happy with the stopping power, but the noise and dust kill me (especially the dust). My front white wheels are a pain in the *** to clean. I put HPS pads on my friends 92 miata and was really surprised by how crappy they were. Any suggestions for a good stopping pad with less dusting? Low noise is good too but I could live with some if I didn't have to clean them damn wheels every time I drive.

Im from Australia and I run bendix Not due to this but because the price is right and they stop hard for a street friendly pad.

Ive used the ultimates but I prefer the heavy duty's. They are a high metal content pad (used to be called Bendix Metal King) and are technically a commercial pad. They are dusty but they are quiet and they heat up super fast due to the metal content. I hillclimb mostly, but on the circuit they still hold up at temp like an ultimate.
My rotors arent being eaten away nearly as fast as everyone warned me too, quite good wear actually.

The PBR (Bendix) Ultimates work well on 1.8 rotors I didn't find them all that dusty, but i rarely wash the car. They grip quite well in the street but will heat up and glaze bad on the track (i thought the pads were on fire once because of the smell).

I realize they can't handle the track, and I'm okay with that. I'll only be autoxing on these. If I track the car I'll swap in xp12s or something.

...and funny I posted this. Yesterday when I parked after coming home from work, the first thing my wife asked is when I'm going to fix my brakes. :(


I thought about Greenstuff, I've had them before on my 1.6L brakes and liked them better than the HPS. In fact, the first time I tracked I was at ~150rwhp and I had my HPSs in (I think was previous story was wrong)...anyways, I had the HPSs in place with slotted rotors, thinking it would suffice with lower power. I was wrong, stopping from >100mph after my first 1/2 mile straight was an awesome first trackday experience. I had to end my session 14 minutes early (out of 15) and swap in the greenstuff pads I had and try again. They lasted the rest of the weekend, but I completely wore through them.

The next time I went to the track I tried Redstuff, but I was at 170rwhp this time. They worked good but started fading on my last session of the weekend. When I was driving home they didn't seem to fair well. When I pulled them they had completely worn their way to the backing plates, brand new.

So that's when I went to HP+ (After my first panic stop on the street).
But even then I never was going to track HP+s, I learned long ago to get a deciated track pad (and I had a set of XP10s for over a year unused). Funny, a bunch of locals here with sotkc miatas who run the same track use HPS pads with no issues, really shows how much faster 50rwhp will take you.

Both Greenstuff and Redstuff were quite, but for the price, the PBR ULT at $54 shipped beat all the rest in the category (HPS, greenstuff, R4s). They have a high coefficent for a street only pad, no one complains about noise and should suffice for my needs. Luckily I have 11" rotors F/R so I don't need an agressive of a pad
