What spring rates?!

FIRST POST :noob:

So ive searched the forum but i couldn't find spring rate recommendations for my car. Im planning to get some BC BR's but i don't know what spring rates to get.

From just reading a couple coilover posts just now i can tell everybody is probably going to tell me to not buy BC's and save up for Xida's, But im on a tight budget. I think the BC's are already to expensive (about a 1000 euro's to get them where i live) but i dont want to get anything lower quality than BC's. If anyone can recommend a better alternative to BC's for the same price its appreciated.

So i own a 99 NB 10AE, planning to go turbo, and would like to do some track days in the future. Its not my daily and i would like to turn it in to a car i can drive on the track but also have it drivable on the street.

Any advice on what brand and spring rates is welcome!

DIY Bilstein setup. 550/375 springs. Soup.

If you must do Taiwan-based coilovers, give FEAL a call and see what he can send you a set of 441s for.

Also: If BCs are 1000 euro, i can't imagine Xidas to be that much more.

If i were to get xida's it would be 1700 dollars (1450 euro ex shipping) without dual springs and top mounts. Plus i would have to pay about 20% import tax, as i cant seem to find them on a european website. So thats going to be a little too much.

I would have to look in to the 411's, looks like 1400 dollars ex shipping.

Im going to do some research on the DIY bilstein setup tonight as i dont know alot about it. Whats the lowest you can get with a DIY bilstein setup?

I suggest Racelands.

Thats funny :fawk:

concealer404 11-16-2017 04:44 PM

Why? They get low.

Joey_ 11-16-2017 06:31 PM

Im sure they do, but as i think you understand i want some better performing coilovers. I just asked what the maximum drop you can achieve with a DIY bilstein setup is, as i like a low look, not so i can slam my car. My current setup looks like its a monster truck.

concealer404 11-16-2017 06:32 PM

You can slam your car with Bilsteins.

I'm running BC BR with 8k 6k Springs. So about 450 350.

I love them, street ride is great, firm but forgiving and not bouncy at all. Track, they perform really well, but not like xidas with 700 springs. When pushed hard, they will bottom out

overall, really nice midrange coils. And way better then fm vmaxxx that I had previously.

one note, they are designed to go low, I actually cranked them as HIGH as possible and it's still a hair too low for my taste. About 11.25 front and 11.75 rear

Thats some good info thank you!

Did you get them with pillowball mounts? if so would you recommend it? And would you leave the spring rates as they are or would you change them?

I would go with FEAL over BC, they come with swift springs standard.

emilio700 11-17-2017 12:19 PM

800/500 are the correct rates for what you are doing. Good luck getting BC's to work at those rates.

I'm using 550/350 on msm billies, but my rear sway is larger than his. It is good enough for light trackday work but not for srs bzns racers. Need more shock $$$$ for that.

What is the offset and width of those wheels? 15x8 0? Your gonna needs some camber bra
