Hello, just finished up my turbo miata heres a video on youtube YouTube - Turbo miata first start up
i just put it on the ground tonight, i have 15" 0 offset sportmax 002 rims with 205/50/15 in the front, and 225/50/15s in the rear. Took it down the street just rubbing like crazy on the fenders about a millimeter clearence. My suspension right now i have bilsteen shocks with voltland lowering springs, FM sways, and FM rear upper shock mounts. Are my springs to soft? My question is can i just buy harder springs so it wont rub when i hit the throttle, or would i have to do springs and shocks all over again? Any help would be nice i want to get this thing on the road, right now im just running my wheels. Thanks.

thats without even anyone sitting in it

kotomile 05-21-2009 12:26 AM

Bubba?

stranges12712 05-21-2009 12:31 AM

yup aha i got my car running

UrbanSoot 05-21-2009 03:03 AM

first you should ditch those wheels. they are horrible. second - you either need to get fender flares or raise your car up. harder springs wont solve the problem.

kotomile 05-21-2009 07:11 AM

It doesn't even look low at all to me. I think most of the Sportmaxxxxx crowd ditches the fender liners and rolls (maybe pulls also) the fenders.

curly 05-21-2009 07:45 AM

Yes you don't "need" fender flares. Rolling/pulling should help, along with removing the fender liners. I had to put .660" spring spacers on all four corners to keep from rubbing on mine.

What are the spring rates of voltland springs? Never heard of them.

kotomile 05-21-2009 09:16 AM

I think he means Vogtland

IAmiata 05-21-2009 10:18 AM

Tein is the best choice if you want adjustability...

BenR 05-21-2009 11:17 AM

225/50/15s on 0 offset? That's going to need a bit more than a pull. You're going to need flares. Wtf made you decide on this combination?

BenR 05-21-2009 11:20 AM

thymer 05-21-2009 11:23 AM

That reminds me, I want a set of tein's but I only have $50 to spend. Any ideas?

cueball1 05-21-2009 12:48 PM

Congrats on the turbo build. Built motor and quality parts in the engine bay. Well done.

Flares or get some wheels with a proper offset. Style bar has gotta go now too! You've got real power, get yourself some real protection.

Savington 05-21-2009 01:02 PM

I was all excited for another good suspension thread on this forum.

:ban?:

stranges12712 05-21-2009 06:09 PM

Well, i do have fender flares, but my dads going nuts saying you dont chop the body on a car dont know why he wont let me...i wanted the bigger tires in the back to hold down the power if that makes sense and the look. A guy at work did tell me about those spring spacers. I think i choose those rims because ive seen another body with them and i think it looked good. I still have my stock springs and some cheap ebay 30$ lowering springs lol. Already spent to much money on wheels to lose my shirt on them...this is a pain.

stranges12712 05-21-2009 06:12 PM

I know this is off topic but i hooked up my wideband by the instructions and it reads 7.4 and the l.e.d. doesnt shut off so it calibrates, and when i push the button the guage just gets brighter. If anyone can help me with that it would be great. And if anyone has a turbo map for the MS that i could use that would also help me. I just need it running so i can drive to toronto and get it dyno tuned. Thanks.

thesnowboarder 05-21-2009 08:08 PM

Nice LEDs man :p

UrbanSoot 05-21-2009 08:40 PM

ok... here is your new setup:
15x7 +25mm to +35mm
225/45/15 all around
fm springs

votgland springs are complete crap and its generally not a good idea to run different size rubber on miata front to rear.

Braineack 05-21-2009 08:48 PM

I think you need -10 offset.

stranges12712 05-22-2009 12:12 AM

well i think im going to buy a set a the FM springs tm, the wheels im keeping like i said cause i will lose my shirt on them lol, il get the FM's see how they work out. And it was alot lower then last year i think cause the dynamat i used on the car and the JL sub...spent 600$ on dynamat lol. -10 offset would like sickkkkkkkkkkk man, i get my balls busted all the time for having this car and throwing $30,000+ into it, but what you gona do, i love the car, just hope it puts out what i hope.

AlexO35 05-22-2009 02:21 PM

Uh, *that's* a $30k Miata?!? Wow. Just wow.

pretty please

UrbanSoot 05-22-2009 02:50 PM

you spent $30k on your car and still have $200 wheels, $50 style bar, and zip ties on your bumper?

UrbanSoot 05-22-2009 02:51 PM

i mean... i have about $25k into my car as it sits right now but you can see where $$ went to - built motor, aem standalone, cage, race prep, etc.

curly 05-22-2009 03:02 PM

Maybe he's including all the gas and oil changes he's paid for.

I know what a $30k Miata looks like. If you have $30k into yours, I pity you.

Should we tell him you TURBO'D yours for 1/100th of that price?

AlexO35 05-22-2009 05:27 PM

Yea, I wasn't going to mention that, but yea. I'm about 7-8k in including the purchase of the car 6yrs ago. But dude, if I can do a turbo for $250, imagine how far 30k would go. I'd have the right offset wheels and everything.
--Alex

stranges12712 05-22-2009 05:32 PM

Pretty much anything you could buy for my miata i did lol, the whole motor is done up like i said, forged 8:8:1 pistons .5mm bored over H rods forged, hks cams, lifters, valves, ect ect...begi s4 turbo kit with every upgrade possible/add on(2871 turbo, #3 intercooler, custom intercooler tubes, air scooper, air box, rad shroud, hks bov) 190 walbro fuel pump, LC1 wideband, MS, springs + shocks, rims n tires, FM butterfly bracing, rear bracing, front bracing, FM sways, FM rear shock mounts, Quaife gearing soon coming, polished undertray, sparco seats, momo steering wheel, HID's, wet nitrous kit, purge kit, oil cooler with relocation kit, dual feed fuel rail, 650cc injectors, 3 inch magnaflow exhuast, 3 inch metallic core cat, whole car dynamatted, JL full sound system, front 6.5" speakers with crossovers + tweeters, rear 6x9s, 700W sony 2 channel amp, 1200 watt kenwood amp, JL 10W3 sub with JL box, full r-package body kit, fender flares, paint going on soon, new top, tint, 45V coilpack, with 0 ohm spark plug wires, misc parts...pedals, SS short shift, shift knob, 8 autometer gauges, red dash lights, white gace gauges, chrome rings, im probably missing a few things but you get the idea. I went all out on the car not a put together ebay chinese turbo kit go run 12lbs of boost and blow your motor, this motor is built for 600+hp, i wanted a fast miata lol if you got the money why not. And yes i have zip ties and what not and it looks like a piece of shit right now cause it has been sitting on blocks since October 2008 and i took it off the blocks yesterday. No idea why it took forever for my parts...but its almost done now. If you like it thank you, if you think im an idiot and spent alot of money thank you. :)

at the time i liked the wheels the way they looked but now i regret it, but what you gona do maybe change them next year who knows

DragonsMaw 05-22-2009 08:34 PM

It sounds like you overpaid is all. I wouldn't mind owning that car especially with those parts.

...Wait, did you get the installation done for you? Then it makes a a bit more sense.

UrbanSoot 05-22-2009 08:40 PM

off to clubroadster you go :)

stranges12712 05-22-2009 08:49 PM

Lol well since i had to purchase everything from the states and our conversion rate is just horrible right now i sort of got fucked. In american money itd prob be like 18k or w.e the rates at now. And no i installed every single piece on my car, except bore the motor the shop did that. Its just headaches now, everythings such a tight fit and theres already problems cant find a tuner around here...well hopefully it will be on the road for june 1st il keep you all updated and post the dyno results when i go :D

hustler 05-26-2009 08:56 PM

I have $20k or so in mine and I'd do it all over again without a doubt.

DragonsMaw 05-27-2009 02:30 AM

Since when does anyone feel their car is complete? You just hit consecutive stages of "It'll do for now" until the next crazy idea comes around for improving.

gospeed81 05-27-2009 08:01 AM

Well...to answer the OP's question:

There is only one thing to do, and that is to call Shaikh @ Fat Cat Motorsports. If you've put that much into your car, suspension should be top notch.

Unless you go with some hella expensive coilover setup, I imagine you'd be happy with some real spring rates, revalved Bilsteins to match them, and MCU bumpstops with possibly front top mounts as well.

vehicular 05-27-2009 01:58 PM

Lol! I with all them^^! Ha!

NA6C-Guy 05-27-2009 02:12 PM

I've got like $18k in my NA right now, and it still looks like shit, rides like shit, and isn't turbo... and keeps blowing fuses and other annoying stuff like that. So I can't comment on overspending, since I'm probably in worse shape than that.

Laur3ns 05-27-2009 02:24 PM

just wait a month or two. personally, im at 6th stage of my build and my current miata has been n/a, then turbo, then bigger turbo, then turbo with built motor, then stock daily driver, and now its finally a 2.0L 11:1 track/dd car. all that within a year and a half and without even seeing it for months. has been on jack stands since about 2 weeks after i got it :)

stranges12712 05-28-2009 10:04 PM

Lol maybe in 2 years or so il get bored of this and do a v8 swap who knows! Theres tons you can do to these cars, all i need is a tuner! I think im going this weekend if i get insurance tomorrow or im going to have to wait 2 weeks...but i will probably do new suspension next year, the quaife gearing, and run 30lbs of boost :D i cant wait to hit the track this year. Any ET on 21lbs of boost on a turbod 1.6L?

stranges12712 05-29-2009 01:05 PM

WOW tons of rims lol, and the flares are the racing lifestyle ones, fibreglass, the first ones on the top of the page http://www.racinglifestyle.com/bona00.html
if you want them pm me.

spoolin2bars 06-01-2009 10:30 AM

you could keep the wheels and stretch 195/50/15's on 'em and get flamed by everyone on here. (but they would probably clear with a little fender roll and pull)

or the better route: sell'em, buy new wheels and proper sized tires. with the right wheels/offset you can do 225/45/15's all around. or if you wanna sacrifice good handling for hot rod looks, you can do 205/50/15 frt. and 225/45/15 rear which keeps the o.d. pretty close. just get a good quality max perf. summer tire if your worried about traction. the new hankook rs3's would be a good choice and are available in those sizes.

lastly, if you have real flares (like tuckin'99) put those on, chop those f'kin fenders (who's car is it anyway?) and buy 225/45/15's all around and who cares what anybody says. if it makes you happy, that's all that matters in the end.
good luck

Jfornachon 10-08-2009 03:36 AM

I think it's funny that you built this car to go fast and are looking for et's when you dynomated the "whole car". By doing this you just killed a good part of the performance that you built in to htis car.

I gues I will never understand some people. Then again I never understood drag racing.

Have a great day,
Jared
