See, the thing is…actual, factual, will-work advice may not be welcome here.

So why would anyone needing help post at this site? So much incorrect won't-work advice. And folks with fake screen names they think are kool?

Got an email from someone here, lessee wassup.

One thing is for sure…good information is unlikely to come from those who "hustle". Says the email, so we'll see.

there is something wrong with the OP's car.

The length of the hose right to left wouldnt make a difference in the pressure in the front brake lines, it would just add volume.

If one of your fronts is locking up and the others isnt you have a mechanical issue of some sort and not a proportioning issue.

alignment, tires, wheels, wheel balance, pads, rotors (both front and rear) and many many other factors come into play.

Do as you are doing and try one thing at a time and quantify if you have solved the issue.

im not sure about the wilwood calipers, but if you install oem type calipers on the wrong side the bleeder valve will be on the wrong part... so im not sure that it will work for you or not.

It's hard to diagnose by forum. All sorts of information is missing. Normally most NA/NB Miatas do ultimately RF lock first. Are we seeing the typical amount, or an excessive amount? That is one thing data can tell you. What is hard to tell with so little information is what else is going on. Tire issues, suspension matters leading to braking issues, aftermarket part installs, etc. Some of the things suggested here in this thread taking longer to post than to check on the car along with various other things at the same time. Once the individual parts on the car are mechanically ok, it very well may be experiencing other issues such as proportioning. With some of the parts installed in the wrong lines I'd want to go over the car very carefully to look for other similar issues in the brakes and in other systems.

If you stick to the effort and do some testing and tweaking later on, you can get the brakes working better than ever Mr OP.

A moderator who behaves like that?!!? On a site with paying sponsors.

And who uses a fake screen name, to hide for some reason?

No wonder this place has such a reputation.

We turn threads like these over to our tame Forum Moderator.

Some say, three days after his birth he impregnated a nurse. Some say, Chuck Norris jokes were originally about him but he felt they didn't do him justice.

All we know is, he's called Hustler.

I can stand the heat just fine…it's just sad & funny that this site is like this, things could be better.

Now that I see that "hustler" is apparently a moderator here things make more sense. Sites that care about themselves tend to have mods unafraid to use their name you see.

Those that hide do so for a reason. I saw that at one of my first jobs at a car dealer. It was a Pontiac place with the owner's name identifying the business, as in ~Smith Pontiac. "Smith" lived and raised his family near the dealership. His rival was Stateline Pontiac. Guess which one lied and played games all the time? He did not want his name associated with his own behavior. Stateline was constantly in the newspapers for ripping people off and being investigated. So they hide. Like Hustler. So why are you hiding Mr Hustler?

Be careful of some of the advice in these pages, some of it is suspect.

I noticed your name in your screenname, ok. Something I noticed over time…hiders tend to be wimps lol. Like if a new vendor shows up…you know their name generally. Inspires trust and confidence. When a moderator with a fake name misquotes folks in a way that leads to banning in other places, it tells you something about the person and place. See, "Hustler" does not want his behavior and online style affecting his real world life. He senses something is wrong, so he took steps to try to shield one from the other.

I don't understand the conflict here.

Yes if OP's car pulls to one side, something is broken that has nothing to do with f/r bias.

Yes BBK front, 1.6 rear = poor rear bias. Yes early stock miata brakes have poor f/r bias.

Does anyone disagree with above?

???????????

I've fixed cars with all sorts of brake issues over the years. Street cars, National level autocross…track cars…poser/forum king cars too.

It's very hard to diagnose over the net…lack of information...when I physically run into a car where the guy was posting his issues online…generally various other things are going on..stuff you can only see in person.

This is an early Miata in unknown condition. At least one part (prop valve) was improperly installed. If the car has weakish rears and the normal tendency to lock the RF first…it will tend to pull in that direction. We don't know how hard, the alignment, bushing and tire condition, sway bar preload, ride heights / corner weights, how hard does it pull and at what times…stuff that a five minute peek and five minute test drive would find.

I think the guy has heard most of the usual ideas to check out, and just needs some time to go over things. In the end, this thread asked about bias issues…and early Miatas do have an issue there…he has a BBK installed and stock tiny rears of unknown condition etc.

If he was nearby I'd get his car shaped up real fast. Like I said, and which aggravated some, I did this exact thing for a local Miata guy…he physically came up to me three times so far thanking me…I'll give him an 8 x 10 suitable for wall hanging next time lol. The thing I got out of that is how far off some of the advice and remedies tend to be. Guy seemed sorta shcoked that the forums were wrong…like someone popped his balloon. All I did was basic, fundamental things, measuring and adjusting based on the datalogged results…and his car now rocks in braking. That's not an opinion, the data backs it up, you can't fool the physics.

I frequent this forum because of the high standard of knowledge that resides on here (Jason, Joe Perez, Abe, Savington to name a few high profile members). You are very much in the minority in thinking this is a poor site knowledge wise.

And fanboy ricer site? you have to be frigging joking, this is almost the antithesis of a riceboy site

i gotta give it up for hustler. just when i thought u couldn't top the previous post u is even funnier. :kowtow: x 10000 in your general direction sir.

sjmarcy, ok i'll bite. i have stock 1.8 brake hardware and in autox i lock up rf. i was thinking of cross drilling my front rotors to save weight, and i figured i would go ahead and add a 10% left bias. since area varies with square of diameter, i was figuring just a tiny bit bigger holes on the right rotor than the left. i was also thinking of using a masonry bit which i sharpen to a razor edge with a diamond wheel so it goes through the mild steel like butta.

interested in your analysis

jasonb 10-08-2010 04:02 PM

to OP. sticky piston? i'm sure other folks here have better diag than this, but the first thing that i thought of was to substitute piece of wood for your pads on both sides. step on pedal real hard, and then inspect. if sticky piston on driver side, then it should show up in the piston imprint on the wood.

if this is dumb then please ignore
