AMSOIL Trans/Diff/Motor Oil/Grease at Trackspeed Engineering
 

I'm a big fan of Amsoil fluids, and I use them almost universally in both of the race cars, but a lot of members probably don't know that I'm also an Amsoil dealer. I can get their entire line of fluids and greases, but I stock a few particular items that seem to work the best in Miata-specific applications. I've used and tested plenty of alternatives and always end up coming back to Amsoil.

AMSOIL MTG - Manual Transmission Gear Lube (75w90 GL4)

This is the go-to transmission fluid for both 5-speeds and 6-speeds. Smooth shifting when cold, butter smooth when hot, and able to cope with the extremely high transmission temps that most track cars see. 2 quarts will fill a 5-speed+turret or a 6-speed.

AMSOIL SVG - Severe Gear Lube (75w90)

Perfect for OEM Torsen LSDs. I've tried other synthetic fluids, and nothing can beat Severe Gear's ability to hold up to the high fluid temps seen on track. 1 quart will fill an OEM differential (1.6 or 1.8).

AMSOIL Dominator 15w50

AMSOIL Dominator maintains adequate oil pressure even in cars without oil coolers. Back-to-back tests between popular diesel-spec oils and Dominator showed a 10-15psi increase in oil pressure when hot, which was enough to convince me to switch.

AMSOIL 2000 GRG Race Grease

Perfect for brake slider pins, wheel bearings, and anything else that needs a high-temp general purpose grease. Won't burn or separate like other popular greases.

What amsoil product would you recommend for engine oil in a turbo daily? I am running Rotella T6 but I am reading more and more that this is not really a good choice. What weight?

I'd love to hear reasons why the T6 isn't good? And I'm interested in Andrew's input.

Stephen Carr Basically it seems that it seems to break down at a very low temperature and while it may protect your engine well when you first put it in, it won't protect it well for long. I am interested to hear other's opinions.

I for one don't have the trust in T6 that I used to.

I stock Dominator 10w30 for stock engines and Dominator 15w50 for built engines.

I'm also on the T6 kick. I have yet to beat on the car but it's been great as a DD go to oil (cheap refills, trubo sappin may oil) But I too would like a better opinion.

Any reason to not use MTG as a rear diff fluid, as it's a 75w90 fluid.

I know SOMEWHERE I have seen a blackstone report where they guy ran amsoil dominator and rotella T6 in his car and sent both samples to blackstone, then photoshopped them side by side showing the strengths/weaknesses of each. I can't seem to find it now though.

Previous posts you said 10w30 for stock and higher for built. Would this be race motors on the higher weight?

I just DD my built motor but would like to see how amsoil handles with my BE oil pump +1 shim. Currently I've been running castrol gtx 5w30, other option is mobile1 0w40 but I'd like to see how amsoil runs. If it's anything like going from redline to amsoil mtg in the trans, I'm sold. :party:

If you've been using 5w30 in the engine and you're happy with the oil pressure, 10w30 is fine. For some mega-power built motors with big bearing clearances, the 15w50 is a better option, but for stock-ish clearances, the 10w30 is good.

Is this particular Amsoil grease the equivalent these days to the 2000 GRG race grease mentioned in the original post?

Yes, Dominator is the new name for their 2000 grease.

I saw the GL-4 transmission fluid on your site, but had recently been told that they're getting rid of it and moving to a GL-5 version that's safe on bronze transmission parts. Do you know if there's any truth to that?

No, there is no truth to that.
