Default New from Trackspeed Engineering: Coolant Blockoff and EGR Delete Plates

Just added a couple of new items to our catalog this week.

Trackspeed Engineering Coolant Block Off

For folks using a reroute, this is a much cleaner method of blocking off the front coolant flow. The 30mm freeze plug presses into the head, and the block off plate holds it securely in place. This is a particularly clean option for people who are deleting the plastic timing belt covers.

Trackspeed Engineering EGR Delete Plates

Another simple, effective item. These plates bolt on in place of the EGR valve and tube on the intake manifold. The EGR valve has been known to leak under boost if you don't have it hooked up, so if your EGR valve is just sitting on the engine with nothing plugged in, it's best to get it replaced with our EGR Delete Kit.

Keep an eye out in March for more new items!

Can you run the the block off plate without the 30mm freeze plug? I ended up just hacking my coolant neck and welding a plate of aluminum in. Hoping it doesnt leak (there is an o-ring in there).

I just ordered the coolant block off plate. I was actually about to take a water neck up to the machine shop this week to have them make me one.

Does the freeze plug need the blockoff plate to retain it, or is it just nicer looking?

^ - what he said. The engine block has freeze plugs in other locations that don't have cover plates to keep them there, why is one necessary at this location?

From the link

Included is a freeze plug and block off plate for the front of the head to ensure the freeze plug stays put.

Nice, this doubles as the freeze plug installation tool.

Sav has said in the past that particular one likes to back out. 30mm fits, although for whatever reason, extra pressure, loose tolerance, etc, they can back out. Hence the plate. I'm assuming it doesn't have an o-ring groove, so I wouldn't think you'd want to use it alone. I haven't experienced the backing out myself, but I did make one for myself just a few days ago.

Do the EGR block-off plates come with fasteners?

ask Astroboy about the time his freeze plug popped out.

Nice parts. You guys always seem to sell the products that I would normally DIY, at prices that make me question my laziness to do it myself. Good marketing scheme! lol

Freeze plug and plate ordered. For $20 it isn't worth it to mess it up and have to do it twice. I don't trust my freeze plug install skills enough to just run the plug.

I wasn't trolling, btw. The outlet wasn't designed to hold a freeze plug, and I totally belive that people have had them pop out without a retainer of some kind.

It's also perfectly plausible (though much less likely from Trackspeed) that they just didn't like looking at a stupid brass freeze plug on the front of the head.

Wouldn't the 323 have had a freeze plug in that location?

No threadcrapping intended, just looking for some valid explanation or personal experience rather than hearsay about what somebody has heard somebody else tell them is a problem. If the engine has a freezeplug there in the FWD applications, then it doesn't make sense that it wouldn't work just as well to have a freezeplug there in a Miata application - there are other freeze plugs in the engine that don't need a cover plate to stay in place. Is it truly a problem with a correctly installed freezeplug or is it just a rumor propagated by someone that didn't install theirs properly and had a problem with it? Being that Trackspeed is selling the part I'm guessing its a real problem but nobody has given me any real proof of that.

FYI - I ordered my blockoff plate from Trackspeed yesterday.
