Chevy Camaro poised to outsell Ford Mustang for first time in 25 years

It’s been a quarter-century since the last time it happened, but Chevrolet’s reborn Camaro appears set to steal away the yearly pony car sales crown from the Ford Mustang. According to AutoWeek, the Bowtie Brigade has cleared 75,685 Camaro sales through the end of November, while the Blue Oval has shifted 68,264 units. Extrapolating the monthly sales totals to the end of December, AW estimates that Chevrolet will finish 2010 with around 82,500 sales, besting the Ford’s estimate of 74,500. Trailing the muscle car pack in sales is Dodge’s Challenger lineup, trending at around 36,000 units. There has certainly been pent-up demand for the Camaro among consumers after its prolonged absence, but what’s even more impressive about its yearly sales total is that if the lead holds, the Chevy will have outsold the Ford and the Dodge with far fewer special editions and no convertible bodystyle like the Mustang. (A droptop Camaro is slated to go on sale next year, and a high-performance Z28 variant is also expected). http://www.gtcars.ca/wordpress/wp-co...ew-300x199.jpg More... |
BUT the new 5.0 and even the V6 mustang is better in every way...
Everyone and their mom has a camaro here... they got old fast... |
yeah, but Mustangs are me too cars.
"Dude what did you do yesterday?" "I just put a flowmaster exhaust on my mustang." "Really? Me too!" Aside from that, I prefer camaros due to the fact that the LS series engines still retain pushrods. I guess I'm too old school when it comes to muscle, but I just don't support any American V8 that uses overhead cams. |

The 2011 GT will dominate.

Personally, I think the Camero will reign for more than just one year. We will see.
I would rather have a Camero myself. The Mustang is too big. |

Around here, Camaro's are "thug cars". Think Chrysler 300,Dodge Magnum/Charger..where you see nothing but hoodrats driving them...unless it's the SRT version which is always driven by a white dude. Mustangs are driven by everyone. I'd take a Mustang over that shittly POS Camaro any day...it's just soo UGLY. I sat in one a few weeks ago and just laughed at GM's failure in design.

If you haven't drove the 2011 GT you are missing out. With 5-10k miles on the clock they are dynoing 390whp. With a header back, intake, and tune they are picking up 50whp. A 500 crank hp daily is no joke. As a bonus compared to the Camaro, they handle and you can see out of them.

I cannot believe I am saying this, but IMHO 5.0 > Camaro.

I wonder how the Hyundai Genesis coupe is doing in comparison for sales. I know they were gunning for the Mustang market. It would be interesting to see how, if any, it affected the Mustang's sales.
I know up here on Vancouver Island they are freaking everywhere. Rarely see any Camaro's. Also on that note, I think the new Camaro is so horrible. The build quality is ludicrous speed bad, and it's just freaking ugmo. |
I've heard rumor of Hyundai putting a V8 in the Genesis Coupe to compete with the Mustang. That would be fun.
