Everyone on the Porsche forums was convinced the base price was going to be $145k+. I am impressed that they kept it so low to be competitive with the model S. I would totally buy a Porsche before the Tesla. I imagine the interior quality will be better and Porsche will have other engineering tricks learned from the 918 that will trickle down. I am quite excited to see how this one turns out. The allocation process in the beginning though will likely be horrendous until the production is ramped up.

I dig it. Looks like a stretched Cayman.

Not that I have $90k+ to drop on a car, so I wouldn't be a buyer anyway.

Has anyone ever heard legit feedback if these lead bricks called electric cars go through tires and brakes more than normal cars?

I can't tell you on tires but they go through brakes at a far lower rate. Regenerative braking yo.

I dislike that it resembles a Cayman in any way, but acknowledge that this is a thing which appeals to the buyers of $90k cars these days...

If Porsche actually delivers on this promise, of 400 km range on 15 min charge, my mind will be blown. As someone who works with high-power electrical devices, that is power transfer on a scale which is hard to imagine in a consumer machine. 350 Kw is a mind-blowing amount of energy. Big, high-power UHF TV transmitters USED to run at that kind of rate back in the analog days. And they required full-time staff to maintain them.

As someone who has specifically driven from CA to NY, and has, in general, made many coast-to-coast treks, in my experience this is what tends to happen:

(Taken earlier this week, from the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel in Knoxburg, TN.)

I'm pretty sure it had adequate range to get me to the airport.

Anytime i see something about an electric car, i think of that homebuilt bmw that passed 1200km on a single over charge.
