Step one is to convince the folks at Hoosier that there is sufficient Market to pay for the tools needed. If that doesn't work then we simply don't make the 12s.

I call them once a week for the last two months

So, hypothetically when this tire gets produced, what does one need to do to alignment numbers to actually benefit from a tire that wide? I'd imagine running much closer to 0* camber and virtually no castor either? (standing on a lot of shoulders here, from my lowly 205/50 on a 15x7 status)

It's been standard practice on CSP Miatae running the 275 Hoosier to stand the tire up a bit. But don't take my word for it. Test. Get your own data. This matters. I'm assuming you own a probe type pyrometer.

Just got this from hoosier:

"Thanks for your follow up e-mail. Good news – we had a slight delay and possible cancellation of the project in August, but the green light is back on and I am hoping for a Fall / Winter 2017 release date.

Feel free to write me back in October for an update. I am hoping to have some news in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for your patience awaiting this new tire size."

Does this mean 15x12 is back on?

I'd like to see these 15x12s:makeout:

15x12's were put back into the production queue the day after we got confirmation the tire was a go. No price specs or ETA on the wheel yet.

We have been test fitting our new 15x12 on the T1 car, right now we have a used set of 275/35s on them just to be able to move the car around and see approximately how tight everything will be. Looks like event with the 295/35 we should be pretty good, might have to do a little more trimming, we shall see.

We purposely set the offset as high as possible to allow for tubbed chassis. Those who need a little bit more room can throw a small spacer in. For the type of car these are going on trimming offset with the spacer shouldn't be a problem. One can always space the wheel out but you can't space it in if it offered starts too low.

Looks right at home under those fenders. I love this car.

Honestly we expected to be doing more trimming, so far they are looking great.

Does anybody know the actual width of hoosiers 295 tire? Trying to size some tire warmers.

emilio700 12-22-2017 12:38 PM

NA rear uprights are 5mm narrower. That will reduce inboard clearance. Track cars base more of their lap time on steady state lateral grip so they'll tend to run more rear negative camber. Add power and you'll need to reduce camber, stand the tire up a bit more. Autocross cars base more of their lap time on being able to accelerate of a turn so they stand the tire up even more.

So a relatively low power NB track car might run -2.7° + the 5mm spindle. A high power NA autocrosser might want -1° and have 5mm narrower spindles. The difference could be nearly 20mm at the top of the tire. So one is no where near clearing, the other just clears.

They do have a good bit more usable tread width and you can make them "fit" on the front of a NA at 4" ride height with a 12lb sledge hammer. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f6759ca027.jpg

I really can't thank Jeff and the rest of his team enough for making this tire a reality. We have been working on this project for over 2 years and when the boxes showed up at my house I was in total shock. There were so many times we were so close and something would happen that would set things pack or threaten to totally cancel the project. Jeff continued to work with us and it is now a reality!!!! The one area that my car always had a significant disadvantage in was over all tire contact patch. I think the playing field will now be level.

Thanks for spearheading this project Eric. The Miataverse owes you a debt a gratitude. 6 on the way to our shop.
