Default 225/45/15 & 245/40/15 Maxxis RC-1

Maxxis has added the 225/45/15! We have been talking with them for a while and tested 245/40's last summer, but now the sizes are public. Right now I have no idea when or how much but will certainly share when I know more.

The 205/50/15 is the spec tire for SuperMiata. When the 225/45's drop, they'll be adopted in the series.

Sizes | Maxxis Victra RC-1

edit:
This is a hand grooved 245/40/15 RC1 proto from 2013 on a 15x10. We tested them (un-grooved) on 10's last summer and they were fast. That data doesn't mean anything now because the final production tire will be a bit different, possibly even wider. I have been working behind the scenes to get this tire made for about 6 years now. It's almost here. Wow.

Awesome. Definitely in to see if these have more street grip than the Rivals (the NT-01's weren't grippier on the road than the RS-2's, in my experience).

The RC-1 is a race tire with only two longitudinal tread grooves. You would have to pay a race tire specialist shop to hand cut grooves to suit your needs. The tire I pictured is my personal set hand grooved by an off road racing shop. Cold race tires do not make for good traction on a commutermobile on a cold day.

Oh, I know about the two groove. John still says 245 street tire is still 'under consideration' if anyone is wondering.

Instant SuperMiata spec tire on 9s. Im thinking .75~1s on most tracks over the 205/8.

Great news on the 225's! I just hope it does not bump the 245's production slot.

I look forward to running the 245's on 10's this year.

Props to all that made this tire happen!

I want that 15x10 setup pictured above. With grooves so the police don't stop me.

So, the 225/45s should be ready with the next batch of 6ULs then?

Can we pre-order the combo yet?

Is there a rundown of how these compare to the 225/45 Toyo RR's?

From what I'm reading above, they don't exist yet in 225/45. I think the main draw is comparable performance for less $$. Some have probably done a comparison in 205/50 by now.

Yes please. That way I dont have to sacrifice my daily's gen 1 8s to the track gods or try and cram 205s on 9s.

Per the tire hierarchy thread elsewhere on this board, the 40tw Toyo RR is 1-2s faster than a 100tw Maxxis RC-1 on a 2 minute course.

I was told by John at Maxxis to expect the 245 late 2nd quarter. I assume that means about June give or take. Not sure about the 225.

I ran both tires (205 RR and 205 RC-1), both on 9" wheels at Chuckwalla, and I'd put the difference at just north of 1 second.
