225/45/15 Hankook RS3 source

FYI

TR is not the only source for RS3's

Hankook Motorsports dealers can get them too.

BoostedR 03-29-2010 06:32 AM

I heard these tires wear really fast.

hustler 03-29-2010 08:40 AM

webby459 03-29-2010 09:13 AM

There is a thread on m.net regarding this size RS3 is getting difficult to find. Anyone seeing this, or is it just tr that's out of them?

tyson87 03-29-2010 04:18 PM

which one of those has them for less than tireracks prices?

levnubhin 03-29-2010 04:20 PM

I was looking around yesterday, tirerack and tires.com didn't have them in stock.

Cspence 03-29-2010 04:43 PM

They were'nt in stock anywhere when I was looking which is the primary reason I went with the R1R's

they had my rs3s in stock when I ordered them....got them like 2 days later...but they are about $10/tire more than Tirerack...but they have them in stock

MicaCeli 03-30-2010 02:31 PM

Discounttiredirect.com is always good. They didn't have my 225 RS3's in stock though. It's a hot tire right now....it even has phlames :giggle: in the tread.

I bought my RS3's from Treadzone and while the tires were slightly more, the shipping was slightly less than TR... ended up being nearly a wash and TZ had them in stock as you said.

With only a couple options in 225/45/15 and the RS3's selling out you'd think another company might jump in the game. I'd love for Nitto to do the Neo Gen in that size for a cheap option.

Then I could run dem 9's on tha street, son.

buffon01 03-31-2010 12:34 AM

Seriously ijust did a quick search and there's nothing but nitos or rs3, any suggestions for 9s

buffon01 03-31-2010 02:01 AM

How tall would 225/50/15s be??? Only $57 each

Store

Rennkafer 03-31-2010 02:29 AM

Here's a couple pics of the height difference between 205/50-15s and 225/50-15s... it's fairly major.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/...74d701f0_o.jpg

You can see clearly how much the car leans with 225/50 on one side and 205/50 on the other. Clearance was super tight between the tire and front bumper as well with the 225/50s.

On an NB at stock ride height, maybe. lowered NA, no way.

buffon01 03-31-2010 01:03 PM

Rennkafer- what are you running now?? Do you have more pics of those 225 50 15

:( Damn I thought those couldve a nice/cheap replacement for 9"s

magnamx-5 03-31-2010 01:10 PM

225 50 15 works fine on a NA I only got alil rubbing, on the front inner fender liner when fully laoded at speed and turning it has since worn down to where i get none though. Rears have a ton of room, and on the fronts the only thing to worry about imo is that inner fender well plastic shit.

buffon01 03-31-2010 03:06 PM

Could you post or send me some pics??

deliverator 03-31-2010 03:22 PM

I was tracking down tires last week, these were my first choice- OOS at tire rack, and, per two local dealers, on nationwide backorder.

Currently on the car are 6UL 15x9's with 225/45-15 RS3's (that's what's in my sig pic)... the pics I posted were of my other 6UL set which had 225/50-15 RE-71s and 15x6.5s with 205/50-15 Azenis RT-215s.

I'm with Sav... I don't think 225/50's are usable on a lowered NA, though it may depend on what brand, as different manufacturers tires will vary in any given marked size.

My car rubs 225/45s in several places under high-load cornering. 225/50s do not fit on NAs unless you have stock ride height and do not corner hard, ever.

levnubhin 04-03-2010 09:01 AM

I'm ordering R2R's on Monday.

I called all the sources on the hankook website and no one had them. NT01's should be here Monday.

It also helped that the local discount tire direct matched discounttire.com AFTER tax, making them 125 a tire before tax (only 10 dollars north of the RS3)

emilio700 04-03-2010 03:44 PM

We actually got 225/50 V710's (which are fat) on 8's on our NA. Fl;at roll, no pull. Shoulders rub the shock tower bulges at full bump with -2.5° in front but they were fast. Customer in Chicago has an NA with 9's and 225/50 V710's, flat roll, no rubbing.

Rennkafer 04-03-2010 04:53 PM

I'm curious what the difference in diameter (on same size wheels) is between the V710 225/50 and the RS3 or NT01 225/45's Emilio... have both there to check?

Nope, no V710's and loaned my last set (3 actually) of new NT01's to FM for MRLS next week. I'm sure google will turn up the info though.

I did google actually and while I found specs for the tires, they 1) weren't on the same size test rim, and 2) the test rims were only 7/7.5 not 9's. If you look at the numbers I was able to find, the V710s on a 7" rim had 9" of tread width, and were 23.7" tall. The RS3 on a 7.5" rim had 8" tread width and was 23.0" tall for comparison.

With an inch more tread width I can see why they're fast... looks like it may depend on your ride height/camber whether they'll rub though.

magnamx-5 04-04-2010 09:05 PM

i concede sav you car probly sees alot more g's than mine. and i am stock ride height for now. No reason a street car couldnt use them though.

Pitlab77 04-06-2010 11:16 PM

fwiw 225/50/15 v710s on the stock wheels do not rub the fenders on my nb, but then the are bulging and not as square as the would be on a 8 or 9 inch wheel
