Just saw these new 245/45 achilles ATR-K sport. wondering if anyone has had experience with these before? might be another cool option for 245 if you can fit the 45 aspect ratio. Thoughts? |

Too tall for 99.99% of NA/NB Miatas regardless of what anyone else says.
|
Those would fit an ND miata.
|
How much are they and where can they be purchased? Searched and didn't see them for sale anywhere.
|
Yurop, and cheap.

Found them online below...
STREET AND TRACK TIRE | TOYO Tires, ACHILLES TIRES, Race tire, Mazda Miata, Spec 911 Interesting. I'm loving my Maxxis VR1's in roughly the same size. These are tempting for the same price though. |
245/45 is "roughly" the same size as 245/40 in the same way that a 5" penis is "roughly" the same size as an 8" penis.

I get the basics of tire height, but I didn't think a 5mm change would be that noticeable. Thanks! |

Why would a 5mm height change be that big of a difference?
I get the basics of tire height Aspect ratio is a percentage of width. 245/40 = sidewall height of 40% of 245mm, or 98mm. 245/45 = sidewall height of 45% of 245mm, or 110.25mm Every Miata on a 23" race tire polishes the top of the fender and shock tower. Adding 12mm to that will cause some very serious interference issues which cannot easily be solved. |

These are for sale at Evasive Motorsports. These Achilles are available in the weirdest 15" sizes around. I really don't know what car is their target.

This would fit the rear of FBs and FCs, Z31s, Z32s, probably some Supras...

I was offered a a set of the goofy 215-50-15's to try out last yr on my track only miata,I have 4 track days on them and they suck balls.I can't find a pressure they actually work at,grip is kinda ok for about 2 laps then nosedives every lap from there.Pressure gain is nutty every session regardless of starting pressure.
They are so hard wear is amazing as they still look new despite lots of sliding around due to the lack of grip and the frustration that ensues. If you want a slow cheap'ish tire that will suck on track for a very long time then these might be for you..... |
Haha awesome! I have some 225/50's of these sitting in my garage. I got them for $80 a piece, so I can't be too mad if they turn out to be as bad as you say.

A little late to reply, but probably still good info.
I've seen a couple of these Achilles tyres in real life and they all seem to be slightly less tall than their given size would indicate. I'd say these are somewhere between a 225/45 and a 225/50 which should be doable for some. The only thing keeping me from getting them is that Achilles is the name of the town retard and my mates would make fun of me. |
I had these on my Catfish at MRLS and I was frankly amazed at how well they worked. Far better than RC-1 or VR-1's I've used, and completely predictable. 160TW, but apparently wear like the TW is much higher. Sean Thomson from Goodwin and Dan Howard from 949 both took the car out and either liked the tires or at least didn't say anything negative about them. They ARE taller, which is what the Catfish needs. I like the gearing better with the tall tires as well, at least if you has trubo.
|
Interesting. I hope to use my 225/50/15 versions this upcoming TA season.
