Mounted up our 17x10 Tungsten last weekend just in time to win first SCCA autocross of the season, in SSM class with our 2006 below. Ran it again this past weekend at BMW Club Autocross event and Top Time of Day using these with RE71R 255/40. Tons of compliments on the setup...it goes fast, sticks like crazy, looks great too. And this is my full weight 'soft' daily driver with 7kg front/4kg rear springs, not one of my race cars with much stiffer setup and lower weight.
The power of 10 inches! ;) http://www.mazdatalkforum.com/downlo...hp?id=3178&t=1 |

First ND RF in the wheel threads!
From the moment I first got to see the new special Launch Edition color for RF, I figured we needed to see it with Tungsten 6UL wheels. Love the result. New Good-Win Racing RF lowered with our Springs and showing off some Tungsten 17x8 6UL wheels with some used Toyo R1R 235/40 tires from our other projects....the combo weighed less at each corner than stock 17x7 and 205/45 Bridgestones. This is my wife's new daily driver, also started her with our SuperQ single tip, our most mild RoadsterSport muffler. This new RF looks amazing, lower it just a little and with the right rolling stock it is getting compliments at every stoplight. I am teasing my wife about making the personal license plate say" "Married" after so many car guys, and one Harley guy, were chatting her up in traffic today while I was following her home. Had just enough light in the day to make it down to the coast for the obligatory California Dreaming Twilight Pic. http://www.mazdatalkforum.com/downlo...hp?id=4220&t=1 |

And so much more fun stuff I cannot remember at this moment... http://www.mazdatalkforum.com/downlo...hp?id=5365&t=1 Notes on this HOOSIER 245/40/17 fitment. Our buddies at 949 put this size Hoosiers on at event down here so Dan could eclipse my fast time on Rivals. And they warned us immediately that this fitment....does NOT fit, does not clear, fender lips were cutting the tires, etc. Now that we have a turbo with near 300 ft/bs torque we are on our way to flares and this 245/40 is just a stop over in that journey. But before chopping fenders figured we would see how much more work it would take to get them on the car. Yes, this is aggressive roll/pull and yes I cracked the paint under the wrap before getting enough clearance to make it work. We have been running 245/40 Rivals for 2 years but these Hoosiers are a lot bigger despite same listed size. We found these rub the rear inner metal coming off the shock mounts with our current camber settings and I took a mallet to that Friday night so I could run autocross practice Saturday and competition today. My relatively soft spring rates had to go, replaced with 11kg/6kg and taller bump stops. Happy to report it all worked well today, class win on low boost setting with lots more potential for speed as we get it sorted. Heights raised about quarter inch to 13.125 all around to make the setup work. |
