I don't know. When they fail they seem to do so spectacularly. I also don't know what the fail percentage is. I didn't buy 6UL's after the 2012 incidents and I wouldn't buy them now. Really, it comes down to whether anyone feels the odds are worth the potential risk. I can't make that decision for anyone else but I can make that for myself.

I miss dietcock already. How will I know how much his hate is growing for 494Miata for his wheels not fitting years ago?

Having some trouble reading this. So you are or are not buying 6ULs?
The last set of wheels were a set of 15X8 which again, I passed over the 6UL and bought the last set of Traklite that Goodwin had. Again, the 6UL seemed to me to offer nothing more for a higher price point. Maybe a slight weight advantage for the 6UL but for me that's a non factor. If I were to purchase now, I'd pass over the 6UL and probably get one of the Konig wheels. The 6UL seems to be no better than any other wheel out there and might have a higher fail percentage. Goodwin and FM have always given me great service and they've earned my business. I've purchased from 949 in the past but probably won't again. Other people might have a different opinion and might want to give their money to 949, that's their decision. |

Under all this hyperbole of cast wheels I guess everyone in the Miata community is going to change to HRE, Forgeline or Finspeed wheels?
I would lay odds percentage wise 6UL's are tracked more than other cast brands unless wax is proven to stress wheels more than curbs? Spec Miata may be on to something with minimum weights? Cast aluminum wheels crack on Corvettes all the time nothing new. Many have learned and gone forged, yet no one wants to pay over a grand a wheel. Still want to buy a set of beryllium15x10 6UL's. Anyone want to sell some cheap as they are bound to explode under your load of cars and coffee wax? |
the 15x10 and wider sizes were built stronger than the smaller sizes

Anyone remember the good old days when magnesium wheels would catch on fire?

This thread gave me a headache. People may not like the idea that wheels have a fatigue life, but if you think about how much force is exerted on them during cornering, it's not really rocket science. Hell, even hubs on track miatas are known to crack. Everything has some kind of service life, when companies also aim to reduce weight then that service life is bound to go down.
What I want to know is how many sets of 6ULs have been sold in the history of the 6UL, compared to the few dozen or so that have cracked. I'm willing to bet their failure percentage is as low as any other part you would buy for your car. |
People are literally ripping control arm mounts out of their subframe during heavy deceleration.

Just read a thread on the Corvette Forum where wait for it ???????????
Factory C7 wheels are cracking with track use. . |
