Bronze!

I gotta say, the bronze is growing on me. We have done three different bronzes over the years. The 17" 6ULR back in 2009 was a light sand color, matte. Not bad but a bit boring. G2-3 was darker and also matte. Kinda muddy. G4 was bright bronze and full gloss. Came out a bit too bright I think,
This bronze is satin, which is key. Lets it glow a bit without being too blingy. Just enough orange to bring the copper element out. I don't like bronzes that have no orange and are just dull gold.
Factoid: Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, which is why it has that orange component.

So for this bronze I started with our bright G4 bronze, made it satin instead of gloss. Then added a teeny bit more orange and red to hint at the copper side. It might be too much copper for some people but I like it. The thought is that the color won't be too strong against red, black, green or white cars where it compliments the best. Time will tell.

Dang, bought dekagrams 15x10 3 months ago…

Z_WAAAAAZ 03-08-2024 09:59 AM

Satin bronze looks rad. Interested to see what it looks like in person. The Advanti bronze was one of my lesser favorites as well. Similar to the first 6UL’s mentioned above. Just a handful of shades off from being grey. Get some brake dust on em and they look like gunmetal until you’re up close.

This might’ve been covered in another thread but what’s the latest on 15x10 4x100 6UL’s and will they be available in the same bronze?

No ETA on 10-11-12. We'll make limited numbers in bronze. The folks that are passionate about bronze are a distinct minority so we do maybe one small run a year. When you see the bronze wheel on our site you are looking for, don't hesitate.

16x9 Nickel 6UL order coming when I get paid (15/03/2024)!

emilio700 03-12-2024 05:09 PM

More details I forgot to add to OP:

The 15x9 & 9.5 clear our F88 BX1175 without spacers. They should clear any other 11.75 x1.25 BBK without spacers as well.

The 15x9.5 is a +32. We saw that the +27 and +29 fitments out there are a little tight on the rear fender lips of the NA with 245's so we brought them in a bit. You can still use spacers to fine tune if need be.

pre-Ordered!
(was half-tempted to go with Beskar but fear they'd be too close to matching my Titanium paint since I like them to contrast)

Nickel 6ULs look "The Sex" on Titanium MX-5s:

I'd like to see Beskar on a Sunlight Silver car since, IMO, only silver wheels look good on Sunlight Silver (black makes the car look "heavy", Nickel looks ordinary, Bronze is all kinds of wrong, but Beskar MAY be "Just right!"
Emilio: Do you have 2x Beskar wheels and access to a Sunlight Silver car to show them on?

turbofan 03-15-2024 10:42 AM

Agree, nickel on an MSM is just right.

The only Beskar wheel we have is half an ND 17x9. But we will have many more in April.

Jesse99James 03-17-2024 05:01 PM

Oh man, Lokiel! Your pictures made my decision much more difficult. My MSM once had a set of 15x8 Nickel 6ULs for track use but the owner sold them locally just before I found the the listing (1800 miles away). I've been contemplating switching from the 16x7 Konig Feather rims that came on the car with RT615K+ (215/45), I need new tires in about 6 weeks before it comes out of winter storage. A set of 225 or 245 on Nickel 6ULs sure would look nice on my MSM (FM2 Garret upgrade, GT2560 running 16-18 psi on the built engine).

:bigtu:

Another MSM wearing Nickel 6ULs (from the sales listing, 21k miles)

There are much better Konigs for performance driving than the discontinued gravity cast, non-flow formed 500kg rated Feather.

Site is only showing Nickel and Beskar for the 9.5"... No Bronze in 9.5"?

Bronze not offered in 15x9.5,sorry.

There just aren't enough folks that want bronze to cover a production run. The 15x9.5 is already a really small niche.

Roda 03-18-2024 12:20 PM

Gotcha. Thanks for the quick reply!

Since you mentioned it, why is there a +.5" option on this generation? I've always associated that with "stance wheels" where people are trying to get some more stretch (yo).

Specifically for NA owners wanting to run 245's without flares. Like I said, really small niche.

For people like me! 245's are a bit wide on a 9", ideally should go on a 10", but that doesn't fit very well under a stock NA body (some people have made it work, but ehhh). I'd rather not go flares, so here we are! I'm going to get a set of the 9.5's.

Precisely why we bumped the offset up a bit from the +27 and +29 options out there for our 15x9.5

Roda 03-18-2024 03:19 PM

Ordered Beskar... :likecat:

Gonna quote this here from the other thread, 'cause it really helped to see the colors on real wheels.

turbofan 03-19-2024 02:11 PM

Thanks for that!

Man. I know I'm biased but when I see the details on the new wheels with the new colors, I get really excited haha

The chamfers on the spokes

The fillet where the spokes go to the rim

The ball mill

The smooth step from lip to drop center, got rid of the radial line at the base of the spokes

Very very happy with how these came out.

How does Beskar compare to the previous Berylium colour? I've ordered a set of Beskar's, but still curious

turbofan 03-20-2024 01:23 PM

Totally different. Beryllium was a gloss gray with a very cool (almost bluish) tone.

Beskar is a smoky gray with a lot of travel.

Beryllium was fine. Beskar is so much nicer. Lends a ton of depth and makes the wheel look more dynamic since it looks completely different depending on how the light hits each part of the wheel.

Beryllium was a solid color, not metallic. Beskar is metallic so as Ed mentioned, shows almost silver highlights and almost black areas depending on viewing angle. Watch the video linked above, different animal.

Bronze

emilio700 04-08-2024 08:44 PM

Introducing Spice

.. the finish formerly known as Bronze.
Bronze in the wheel industry is all over the place, some brown, some gold, some matte, some gloss, some flat, some metallic. The most common interpretation seems to be a matte brown metallic and what most enthusiasts think of when you call it bronze.

We envisioned something outside of the usual interpretation. It seemed appropriate to give it a unique name to match. Spice!
This is effectively our "bronze", we're just not calling it that.

In shade (second pic) it looks a bit more brown, but a very warm tone.
In direct sun it just pops. Note the metallic flakes visible through the satin gloss. We're stoked on this finish. Can't wait to see it on different color Miatas.

Open shade, a bit muted and dusky

"The Spice must flow!"
(yeah, I KNOW it wasn't in the books but it fits here)

"In direct sun it just pops." - sounds very much like Mazda's Velocity Red, it looks plain red in shade or most photos but in real life when the sun's out, looks magnificemt.

turbofan 05-03-2024 08:09 PM

I posted this over in the ND wheel thread but uh, this one is more popular.

If y'all haven't seen yet, we've released a series of short videos on YouTube outlining all the changes we've made in the last 5 years with regards to wheel design and engineering, styling, features, etc. While each generation of 6UL has brought improvements over the prior generation, Gen 5 is a HUGE leap forward.

We still have a few more videos to make but this is a start!
