1. Trolling with nearly 300 posts? O RLY?

2. Even if English is indeed your fifth language, at least put a little bit of effort into it.

mgeoffriau 07-12-2010 02:48 PM

I nominate this for the biggest discrepancy between the quality of the car and the quality of the post.

I have been a member here for long time, more than many of you[?]. Why are you acting like assholes now?

(8) Saddest post I've ever seen.

What wheels are you on?

webby459 07-12-2010 09:45 PM

What kind of lots are you going to autocross on (large/small)?
How serious do you want to take your autocrossing?
Do you want to do anything to your car to fit the tires (ie, cut/pull/roll fenders)?
Do you want to drive on the same tires to the events?
Asked before-what wheels do you have?

chriscar 07-12-2010 11:02 PM

Common guys, uncommon cars.

If you are new to autox then r-compound tires will only delay your ability to improve as a driver. The RE-11s are a fairly good street class tire and you would be better off sticking with them for a season while you work on improving your skills as a driver. But, if you just gotta have r-compounds then 225-50-15 Kumho V710s or 225-45-15 Hoosier A6s will fit without too much of a problem. The Kumhos are longer lasting than the Hoosiers but the Hoosiers are a slightly quicker ride. If your ride is slammed then all bets are off on those two sizes. Another factor to consider is your alignment. What are the numbers? If you don't know then I recommend you do a bit more reading and talking to others who autox. It is not just about tires and horsepower.

Bond 07-13-2010 02:01 AM

Seems like you would want a good sticky street tire for autox, not a cold slick tire. Dunno, never done it.

lordrigamus 07-13-2010 02:07 AM

This is all you need.

Yeah wrong lol. Personally I am not a fan of R-comps unless the car is not drivable due to LOTS of power. The RE-11 and the star specs pretty much dominate the Street tire class. Best thing to do is have one of the fast guys drive your car and let him tell you if it needs R-comps.

The general recommendation for newbies is to stick with non-r compounds while you are initially learning to control the car. Moving to r-compounds too soon will often hide bad driving habits.

I love my FCM setup I really don't see a downside beside the price. Some people don't like that you can't adjust the damper of the shock but I never felt I needed to. The lot that I race in is very bumpy and the car never gets unsettled. On the track the car is just as good.

You are more than welcome. Don't let the hoi polloi get to you on your english usage, especially if english is a second language for you. I am sure they can't speak your native language better than you can.

He is also a damn fine driver. He autox'ed with us on Sunday and although we didn't actually meet he drove a totally unfamiliar car and placed 11th overall.

Chris, do you think there is anyway to get that combo to fit on a car without severely cutting up the fenders?

Not Chris, but I think you need to do something. I rolled and pulled an NA, and although I never drove it, the 275s looked very very marginal. Not only out by the fenders, but also in by the springs, particularly in the rear.

I'm currently on 255/40-13s, and while not really ideal for a FI Miata, this fitment should be considered an option for any Miata autocrosser, particularly if you use smaller lots.

I was at a Tour event this weekend with some guys who run a NA in CSP with 275s. Not sure what wheels they are on, but they had to cut and pull the fronts pretty severely to get them to fit, they ended up cutting down a tire at the DC Pro and I assume made some adjustments to the fenders after that to get to what they currently have.

All this being said, the NB has an easier time with 275 fitment.

You will need to roll and pull the fenders and might have to add a 3mm shim behind the front rims depending on the amount of camber you run.

Won't work right without an ET -20 to -15 rims because they hit stuff on the inside. I’m running 15mm spacers with 949 racing 15X9 wheels and anything further inboard will have severe interference if you have any bump travel at all on my car. I get rubbing on the inside vertical wall of the rear fender and pretty good rubbing at the top of the shock area of the inner fender in the front another 5mm out would be good.

So not only are the tires wider you have to push them out further unless you’re into tubing the fenders. I have Auto Konexion type 2 flares and they barely are wide enough.

Bob
