Just a guess. Really good at getting their dust off at least.

Splitime 07-22-2010 08:42 PM

Yah, thats rusted brake dust.

Requires elbow grease... and other methods that I've never bothered to do. I just let it grow... speed rust.

That was my guess too, after i blew my 6 speed up the car sat for a few months. I went out and scrubbed it with an old tooth brush and that takes some of it off.

I guess when i have nothing to do ill go really scrub. Any other good methods?

Pay a beaner to clean them.

I spray Pam on my wheels and hose the brake dust off and never use elbow grease.

Once you've let rust sit that long on the finish, it's pretty much toast as it's eaten into the finish. Time to break out the spray paint.

Before going that route try spraying some Wesley's Bleach White on the wheels while DRY, let it sit, scrub, power wash.

Its I reasonably potent acid which sometimes it eats the paint; however, I've used the stuff on a number of winter beaters which hadn't had their wheels clean in years - worked like a charm.

There's also a wheel cleaner BMW sells for its motorcycles which I hear works well.

My wheels get waxed and the brake dust power washes right off. I suppose you can't do that on flat black though.

^ Yea, i remember seeing that thread a while back so i searched for it. Looks like mine is a bit worse, hopefully i can get it off with minimal effort, then ill be sure to put some sort of protective coating on the wheels to prevent this from happening again.

^^

before. it works as a layer to keep the brake dust from really eating into/sticking to the wheels

aznDragonX 07-27-2010 12:36 AM

that remind me an old trick my dad used to do by apply a thin layer of grease to motorcycle body to prevent salt rust when I used to live near by the ocean.

hustler 07-27-2010 07:51 AM

Oh, now I understand the question. Before you drive the car, it won't stick.
