Drag Radials for stock 15's.
I will be getting a set of 15 x 8 or 15 x 9 with 36 offset wheels with 225/45/15 BFG Rivals. I am told these should fit without problems on a 1999, and I am prepared to roll the fenders if this turns out not to be true. Currently I am on stock suspension but have a set of Xida's on the way and don't plan on dropping it more than an inch.
Will a set of 225/50/15 (24" tall) drag radials on stock 15 x 6 wheels fit inside the fenders of an NB1 (1999)? I know that won't corner for shit, only going to use them at the drag strip. It seems real hard to find info on what fits. A lot of drag tires that look good are 26" tall... I assume these are way to tall for us? Thanks, Keith |
A 225/50/15 will fit just fine. It's a tight squeeze on a stock wheel but I've done it before. The backs are no problem, on the front if you're too low you'll rub on the top of the wheel well when you go over bumps but I'm assuming you'll be running something smaller up front anyway.
I've never tried anything taller than a 225/50/15, but I'd assume a 26" tall tire is going to be too big and I don't think the taller gearing would help your ET anyway, assuming you're still ~200whp. |

Thanks for the info on the 225/50/15's. Like you figured, they will only be on the back, sticking with the 195/50/15's up front for now. If I was willing to go to a wider wheel how wide of a drag tire could I fit with rolled fenders without going to aftermarket flares? Thanks for all of your help :) Keith |
