Dunlop Direzza Z1 star spec
Anybody try these new tires yet?
I have them on my car and they are win. I am only running the 195/55/15 and I did pretty decent in sts on them. Plus there is very little spin in first gear, not to mention they corner well. They wear pretty decent on the street too, and have better grip than the rt 615's i had before them.

tire is not new, it has been out for a while do some searches.
they are good. new sizes came out in the last month or so. Same category as the RE11 and the Kumho XS. Pick your posion, as the XS is the lowest priced of the bunch and has come out a few tenths faster on some dry grip test. I just picked up some re11s with a 100 off as they were still in the $90 price range when I bought them (they are back to 120 now). I would go with the XS now |

been running that tire in 205 size on my DD NB for awhile now, sticks like glue for a street tire!
While the XS is slightly faster, the Starspec are much better in the wet compared to the XS
They are a great street tire and they can serve rain back up duty at the track. I bought them because of how well they have done in comparison tests. And they're not stupid $.
The Star Spec is a great overall tire. The XS might be a hair faster but is alot more expensive. Star Spec have great tire life and are fantastic in the rain and unless you a top level driver, they won't be any slower then a XS. Can't go wrong.
I have them on my S2000. Excellent tire, but wears quickly. I got about 11k miles out of the first rear set. Since S2ks have a staggered setup, you cannot rotate front to rear, and the rears wear about 50% faster than the fronts. I suspect that many more miles could be had on a square setup on a Miata.
I'll be putting them on my OEM Miata rims for street duty and to serve as heavy rain tires for the track. |

RE11 is 122 *speck 116 (IIRC) XS 9x? |
Kumho ASX are 68 420 AA A
Kumho XS are 88 180AA A Star Specs are 107 200 A A Im still kinda confused by tire ratings. double checking, number is wear (the higher, the longer they last) and the first letter option AA implies more grip than A correct? so shouldnt these ASX be pretty good? grippy and good wear resistance? or are the ASX going to still feel like all season rocks regardless since they are so wear-resistant? |
Tire ratings are not comparable between different manufacturers. For example, the 200 A A rated Dunlop Star Specs may have better grip and wear faster than the 180 AA A rated Kumho XS.
And to answer the question about the ASX, It sucks. A noisy brick.

And, as CoralDoc said, you can't compare wear ratings from different manufacturers. |
gotcha. thanks for the clarification everyone
Thanks for the input... kumho xs for me....
I'm going from Kumho's to Star Specs this month I think, just got to orfer them...
jbrown: let me know what you think after the swap/which you would reccomend
can't comment on the XS, but I am faithful in Star Specs, and for 14's, there's really no better option for dual purpose.
Really, let me know to. I have been running the dunlops for the past couple years and i hear the kumho's do better in the dry.
