Federal 595 RS-RR as "pseudo-slick"?

Gents,

I have a set of 595s that have not worn evenly. A couple are down to the wear bars and none of the tires should be driven in the rain. Are they any good as "slicks" when they get that worn down?

Thanks,

I run 595RS-RRs as my wet tire. I cant speak for running them worn in the dry but I know Nittos tend to get faster as they wear down to slick levels. Do you have data when they were full tread? If so I would run them until they cord and compare. You should also be able to remount them for the other side to help even out the wear (LF to RF etc).

If you have your own tire machine, sure why not. However, the last set of RS-RR's I had, fell off in performance drastically around the wear bars. I ended up having to retire them as they pretty much stopped wearing and became pretty difficult to drive. If they're at the wear bars I would personally toss them as they probably aren't worth the price of mounting.

They were (are) already mounted.

I did not have the same experience as you. I found they get slickery when overdriven, but with the normal HPDE traffic and such, I was in the 2:19s on VIR Full, and I had a bunch of fun. They appear to still have some life in them. I will take them with me when I go back to VIR as a continuing experiment. I love finally having a car trailer...
