Federal RSR

Does anyone else find these to be the noisiest tire ever? I put them on my track wheels and find them horribly loud, I couldn't run these as a daily drive.

ozbrock 05-18-2021 10:12 PM

Yes.

DNMakinson 05-18-2021 10:17 PM

They quiet down with time / miles. Meanwhile, one can deduce speed from the frequency of the whine. No need to look at speedometer.

I run the RSRR as my wet tire and yes they're really noisy but I dont drive the car on the street so I dont care.

Have you noticed the steep increase in cost this year?

Our government put a stop to dumping tires by Asian suppliers.

Prices I saw yesterday puts them nearly par with hankook R-S4.

Fireindc 05-19-2021 12:53 PM

Yeah, I saw that as well. I only ran these because they were so dirt cheap, I'd never run these if I were paying similar prices to other 200tw tires like rt660, re71, r-s4, etc.

Also, yeah they are loud AF, but after a few k miles quiet down pretty well. Not a terrible tire otherwise. I got my last set for under $300. Now the same set is over $600.

Spaceman Spiff 05-19-2021 01:09 PM

Yeah that's rough, I paid ~$550 for a set of RS4s last month.

I am running 205/50x15 RSRR on the street, plenty of grip, pretty noisy. Fronts need replacing, so I will know how the price here has moved in a week or so.

Pretty typical of 200tw tires to be noisy and hard riding. Those are some of the tradeoffs for the grip and response of those tires. This modern 200tw "street" tire is significantly faster and better feeling than full race tires were 25 years ago.
That said, I find the Hankook RS4 has the best street manners of the lot. The smaller asian tire companies offering bargain priced 200's can't match the technology of the biggest companies that are involved in high level motorsport so their 200's tend to be a bit more crude. Relying more on just plain softer rubber than any trickery in casing, compounding or tread design.

The 595RS-PRO is quieter.
