Hankook RS3 winter 2014-15 availability?

I logged onto tirerack and noticed that they do not list 225/45-15 as a valid size for the RS3 (v2).

Is this something that happens every winter? When should I expect tires to be back in stock? I wish I would have known because I have 6ul's arriving in January/February :(

I've been told by my rep that there is no scheduled production date. So either

A) Hankook is dropping the size. Not likely
B) There is an entirely new tire model on the way Q1~Q2/15. I find this more likely.

In the world of performance tires, manufacturers make more profit per kilogram of raw materials/labor on larger diameter tires. Thus, if production capacity is limited (it is), they'll always favor the larger diameter sizes over our poverty 15's.

I wonder if you could find them on the shelves elsewhere. Trouble is I've only seen the V2 description at TireRack and if I found a set of RS-3's at say America's Tire, how would I know what they are?

So the 225 RS3's aren't going to be made any more? I guess I waited too long to buy my set for next year. I really don't want to go to Rivals, so hopefully Hankook releases something soon.

Do you have a confirmed source that they will be discontinued?

The last info I got from TR was that the 225 Rivals aren't even going to be available until late spring or summer.

Rudy at tire rack said hankook rs-3s are on backorder. Should have new ones around April.

Which ones, the RS3's or the Rivals?

Rs3s. Edited previous post for clarity

wow april.

Man my friends miata who i'm co-driving with has 225;s that bit that dust last october. If nothing is out to april might as well throw the season away.

I can only find hoosiers, r1r's, and the maxxis in that size, but we need a 200 tw tire for Autox

Tire rack shipped me a 225 Rival last week. Not as good in the heat as an RS3, but OK.

Just a single tire, or a set? When did you order it?

Pitlab77 01-10-2015 03:59 PM

I just heard the rs3 v. 2 are not listed as back ordered but are being listed as discontinued in the 225/45/15 at different vendors and only the BFG is on back order in that size. anyone know if this is true?

makes me think about emilio's comments

Single, I flat spotted one to the cords.
I ordered it in early Nov.

So I am in a bit of a predicament. I have two bad RS3 that need replacing and two good ones (over 80% thread left) on my 15x9 6ULs. I have a couple track days at the end of this month and early next month so I need something asap.

Any recommendations?
-Run two NT01 and two RS3.
-Mount 4 new NT01 and buy a new pair of RS3s when they come in stock to complete the set and mount when I burn through the NT01s
-Other options?

Buy and mount 4 NT01's. Sell two good RS3s for good money to someone who NEEDs RS3s for classing. Buy complete new set of tires when NT01's are done.

I was thinking about that too. Might be the winner.

Even considering the Maxxis Rc1 and second pair of cheap wheels so I'm not driving on them on the weekend drives and commute to the track
