Konig Heliums: Tire suggestions?
I'm looking for some tire suggestions for 15x6.5 Konig Heliums. I was going to get some RS3's but it looks like they are no longer available in the 205/50/15 size.
I'm considering the Toyo T1R tires, however the local dealer is quoting almost 600 for them which is very pricey imo. Can anyone recommend a decent tire that's in the sub 500 range? The car will be primarily used as a street car, with a few passes down the track a year, maybe some autox. Thanks in advance! |
Khumo Xs
RT-615K Z1 Star Spec WAY better than the T1R and way cheaper. Also: S.Drives ZE-912 DZ101 |
My rt-615k's have been great so far for me.

RT615's are much stickier but last less than half as long as the Toyo's. You gotta decide if you want a decent street tire that will "last" like a street tire, or if you want a great street tire that doubles as a great auto-x tire that you have to replace yearly.
I managed to scrape 25k out of set of T1R's with about 1/2 dozen autocrosses and a one-day autocross school. I have no doubt that 30k+ would have been no sweat on the street. Good luck getting 10k out of some RT615's, especially if you run them hard... but they are damned grippy. |
T1Rs are overpriced and an old compound, i don't even think most places stock them anymore.
the 615s are like $89 each and will be better on the track. |

Brain, I've looked and I think the $89 RT615's aren't being sold anymore... Falken is calling them "new" RT615-K's. The cheapest price I'm finding is $107-$110. If anybody has a line on a source for the older ones, it might be nice to score a set for under $300.
DTD has a $40 thing going if you buy 4xRT615 through the 30th. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=205 That makes them $110 each from there... shipping showed as free. Good-Win-Racing has them for $119 mounted/balance, which is as good as I can find... but doesn't help unless you're in San Diego. |
Nope, installation is extra. Tire rack was out of the X's, and the price of the 615's drove me away from them. I went ahead and ordered the Z1 star specs yesterday from tire rack. Hopefully the installation fee won't be too bad.

FYI you shouldn't track Heliums. They break. Even Konig says they're strictly for street use.

Recently got the Z1 star specs on and yeah, you could say I was pleasantly surprised. :)
Thanks Brain for the suggestions! |
