LRR - Low Rolling Resistance Fuel Efficient Tire Recommendations?
I'm wondering for non-track day use and ultimate efficiency during normal driving what are the most fuel efficient tires people have found?

Ideally backed up by real-world MPG ratings when doing the same route and same driving style but different tires.

have you tried visiting hypermiling forums or priuschat or something? this is absolutely the wrong site to come looking for this type of info--no matter how serious you are. except maybe rmcelwee might know.

So I understand that this is a performance site and I've been looking through the archives at info relating to making Miata's stronger for competition and more power. I'm helping a friend do a conversion to electric for his powertrain.
Before you poo-poo that consider the numbers from the electric motor/controller setup >300HP and >400ft/lbs of torque and it's immediate! He chose a Miata for the light weight and sporty handling capabilities because he's planning to compete with it BUT it will also be his daily driver and as such, he's obviously not going to want to be running around town with a set of VictoRacers or anything! You'll notice in my original post that I said "for NON-TRACK DAY USE" I assume most all of you have a set or two of other wheels and tires for driving on the street and with the price of gas lately figured people may have found a particular LRR tire well suited to the Miata. You'd be amazed at what a change in tires can do (as I'm sure you're all well aware from just changing the air pressures). Also, just getting lighter weight rims for less rotational mass will help both acceleration, handling and fuel economy. |

Seriously, I'm sure your friend has a great car, and with something like this we REALLY don't care to call you out, but the fact remains that there's little to no information on this site about low mileage tires. It's just the wrong place. PM rmcelwee, he's your only hope. |
I suspect a lot of us are using UHP street tyres or even semi slicks on the street.
M.net would be a more appropriate place for a question like this. Anyway as a plausible answer to your question, just get the tyre with the highest wear rating and over inflate them severely.. |

Step 2: Pick a common car that has 4x100 stud pattern. Step 3: Locate and purchase 4 spare donuts. Step 4: Inflate donuts to 40 PSI. Step 5: Profit. |

i see how this site is mostly full of track guys but if you guys notice the aero would go hand in hand.
Also this site if full of very smart technical minded people so i understand where you guys say he asked the question on the wrong forum but i would ask it here also. there are too many people here who have tried and tested a lot of things with our cars and if they havent there are members here who would understand the concept and have valid thoughts and ideas. Just sayin. |

I daily a Prius. destroyed stock Eco tires on track.
went out and bought some Hankook all season 787 (?) highly rated by CR and Tirerack, MPG immediately dropped from 50 to 46mpg... there is some pictures somewhere. at last month's autocross by SV at ACS.
