Am I allowed to say stuff referencing Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, if I have a paid subscription and read it on a physical page with my own two eyes? The information would potentially save people here some decent money.

Anything about wear? Or straight-line grip

Except for the little problem of the RE71R wearing 3-4x as fast as the VR-1 does. If you care about max performance, yes, 205 RE71Rs on 8s are what you want. Be prepared to buy a set every 3-4 track days, or sooner if you are using them on the street too. If you are doing HPDEs and you want good performance without spending a fortune on tires every year, you want the 245/40 VR-1 on 9s (NAs) or 10s (flared NAs or NBs).

The notion that the 245 VR-1 is just for "stance" or whatever is completely false.

My anecdotal seat-of-the-pants feel says the 245/40s on 15x10s hook harder than the 225 Rival S on 9s in a straight line. No data to back that up, just butt feel and how easy it is to spin 1st on the same car with both setups.

I was mostly joking about the stance thing.

I only care about max performance. I daily the RE71Rs through the mountains and it is fantastic.

Wear or straight line grip was not really addressed, however the VR-1, due to its 9/32 molded tread depth doesn't take well to overheating.

The 245 VR-1 was also over 1 second faster on the 10inch rim vs the 9in rim, even though the top speeds were lower.

The testing and results were also on the Harris Hill Raceway, and they stated that the results may be different on an autocross comparison, which was apparently in the newest issue.

No rub. Fenders are seriously pulled. It fit 275 Hoosiers on 15x9 before this.

What camber are you able to get? I got 275s on 15x9s on my NA too with only pulling, but I was severely camber limited at the ride height that allowed me not to rub. I maxed out at -2.2*. Wasn't worth the tire.

I haven't got my flares installed yet due to a tiny new family member. But I can see being able to make them fit with moderate camber (not absurd but a couple degrees). For drifting I run 0 to -.5 in the rear and with the wheel straight up I stick out past a non pulled fender about 20mm.

On the front you could make fit with a rolled and slighy pulled fender with normal street/race camber. Though I have not checked swaybar/ control arm rub with stock knuckles.

I have angle knuckles so I had to run a 17mm spacer to get the clearance to the sway bar and control arm.

I ran the CRX on VR1's again today at COTA in the same config that I did the magazine test (F: 245 on 10, R: 205 on 8). Tires now have about 5/32nds of tread depth. Interesting results....

Over a second quicker, and much more resistant to overheating, even though ambients were high 80's -> low 90's. Consistent lap times throughout the session (barring traffic).

Only downside was some chunking of the inside tread from running over apex gators on power and lateral-loaded.

Did not run the Rival S today, so no direct comparison.

Yeah, $6 at the newstand is a terrible financial burden. Heck, you can even get a full year subscription for $10 via the period specials. Crazy how much you have to pay for good info.

Rover is getting a conversion to Supermiata S1 spec with a Trackspeed turbo. I had planned to run the spec 245/40 RC-1 on 9" wheels, but this gives me hope of getting the 10s under a heavily massaged set of factory fenders. I have faith

for whatever it's worth, I'm fairly certain he meant "save people money by steering them away from these tires"
not "save people money by not having to buy the magazine subscription"
I have no part in the tire discussion tho, so that's just a guess

You missed the point. Here it is more plainly:

Looks like shaving may help the VR1 gain some grip........
