Nankang AR-1 Cold Weather Performance?
Gents,
I have four days at VIR coming up next week. Temps are forecast to be in the mid-30s to high-40s Thursday for the Grand Course. Can anyone comment on the AR-1's performance at these temps? Thanks much, |
We found these tires like, and can deal with, higher temps.
They'll be a little edgy for a few laps until you can build some heat in them. |
We found that the AR-1 runs 15-25° hotter than most other 100and 200tw track tires. They build a lot of heat and seem to be happy there. Trick for getting tires to work in the cold is to raise cold pressures a bit.

If the AR-1’s are brand new make sure you scrub them for a 15 min session. Gradually increasing speed each lap to a max of 85%. Then let them sit for as long as possible, preferably 24 hours. They will be amazing after that. Always resist the temptation to run them too low on tire pressure.
