Frankly, I'd hope the opposite: Tires that wear like iron for the daily so it doesn't look goofy when we take our race tires off between events.
Cheap sticky 225/45/15's already exist. What doesn't exist yet is the commuter tire that will last 20k+

I have only done two track days on them and I am probably really slow, but my Bridgestone RE11's have over 30k miles on them and are still useable. Too bad they don't exist anymore.

This is currently my most worn out RS3v2. They're about a year old, and have roughly 3700 street miles, 5 track days (23 thirty minute sessions, novice group...), and about 30 autocross runs on them. I'm pretty sure they'll survive the rest of this year. They're $107.82 plus shipping... As my grand pappy would say, "you can't beat that with a stick."
These Nexen's would need to last a long time to be worth the extra money, but it's awesome that we're getting more options in a 225.

I don't know what to tell you. They don't fit the car, no matter how badly you want them to, and no matter how many people ran them 10+ years ago. Racers polish the fender tops with 225/45s. Put a tire in with a radius that's 0.5" taller, and you have to increase bumpstop height by ~0.3" to compensate. Suddenly you've reduced suspension travel and are forced to run the car higher to compensate, which reduces available camber and hurts transitional reponse. It's all bad news. The reality is that anyone using a 225/50 could probably make the car go faster with a 205/50 and a good chassis setup. With the myriad of good 225/45s on the market today, there's absolutely no reason to waste money on 225/50s.

Wow, you've really gone off the deep end.
First of all, the post was tongue-in-cheek. Second, there are no 400 treadwear tires in 225/45-15, so that one is next best thing. You completely missed the point of the post. Third, not every street car must be optimized for the track. Last, the post was tongue-in-cheek. Chill.
