Higher prices than expected, I might bite and try to get a set.
|
Gathering data is never a waste of money haha.

Yah, not cheap considering they're an unproven tire from a company known more for low tech rim protectors than any motorsports involvement. RS3's are $20 less.
|
^this, exactly this.
However, what if these are softer, more like the Rival S or RE71? That'd make them considerably faster than RS3's no? |

Nexen, dude. Nexen.

Frankly, I'd hope the opposite: Tires that wear like iron for the daily so it doesn't look goofy when we take our race tires off between events.
Cheap sticky 225/45/15's already exist. What doesn't exist yet is the commuter tire that will last 20k+ |
Will RS3's not last that long when kept off the track?

I have only done two track days on them and I am probably really slow, but my Bridgestone RE11's have over 30k miles on them and are still useable. Too bad they don't exist anymore.
EDIT: 205/50/15 on Enkei PF01 15x8 |

This is currently my most worn out RS3v2. They're about a year old, and have roughly 3700 street miles, 5 track days (23 thirty minute sessions, novice group...), and about 30 autocross runs on them. I'm pretty sure they'll survive the rest of this year. They're $107.82 plus shipping... As my grand pappy would say, "you can't beat that with a stick." These Nexen's would need to last a long time to be worth the extra money, but it's awesome that we're getting more options in a 225. |
The comparison I want to see is 225/45 Maxxis VR-1 vs 225/45 RS3v2. Those are the top tier of the street/track crop right now IMO.

If by "fills up the wheel wells" you mean "rubs everything and ruins the handling"

Oh, how soon they forget. It was only a few years ago that 225/50-15 was all we could get, and we were grateful for it! :vash:

I don't know what to tell you. Blah, blah, blah.
First of all, the post was tongue-in-cheek. Second, there are no 400 treadwear tires in 225/45-15, so that one is next best thing. You completely missed the point of the post. Third, not every street car must be optimized for the track. Last, the post was tongue-in-cheek. Chill. |
