R888 vs rs3

Okay guys,
I'm asking here since most of you guys acutally use your cars.:)

Has anyone got to compare the 225/45/15 of the RS3 and R888 in person? I'm wondering how much wider if any the R888 is compared to the RS3's that I have now. I'm looking to fill some of Robert's N2 flares with them. I use the car as my daily so no I will not run slicks (hoosiers) on them.

Thanks

From what I've read, if you're going to go beyond the stickyness/treadwear of RS3's you should go straight to the NT01's, and here's a thread comparing them to the RS3's...

Yeah I've been eyeing those as well. I'm not really looking for anything to much sticker than the RS3's just because it is my daily ride. I figured the 888 might be a better daily than the nt01. I'm really looking for something wider than the RS3 just because I'm going to run 15x10's or 16x10's to fill my flares.

well than you don't want the R888, it is wider than the RS3. What width wheels are you running? A 225/R888 on a 9" is like an 225/RS3" on an 8", R888 on a 10" is like a RS3 on a 9"

Thanks you answered my question perfectly. I'm going to be running either 15x9, 15x10, or 16x9/10. And since the r888 is wider on a 10" wheel then I'll probably go with those.

No prob! I myself will be using the R888 on a 10". Looks perfect in my eyes, same amount of "stretch" as my rs3 on my 9".

Yeahhhh i have a 9"

It would not surprise me in the slightest if the R888 had less lateral grip than a fresh set of RS3s. I would take an RS3 over an R888 in every situation (track, race, street driving, rain tires, office chair duty, shimming your RV to level on weekend trips, sex swing, burning them to alerting authorities of your location after a plane crash, etc).

I never said the rs3 isn't the better choice :p, just the meatier.

What tire pressure would you start with cold on the track? Hot?

Impossible to say. Depends on wheel width, car weight, setup, driver preference, etc. If you want to get pressures perfect, invest in a pyrometer.

Not sure if this is applicable or not but for a daily driver it might be...

I drove a mates 90 NA with LS1 recently, could not BELIEVE how noisey R888's are. Sounded like a tractor tyre!

Aside from that, LS1 in a miata was brilliant :)

I think most prefer the NT01 over the R888
