Default 225 NT01 vs 205 Hoosier R6 for NASA TT

So silly idea. I'm currently running 15x9 6ULs with 225/45/15 NT01s. The Hoosier Contingency program for NASA is tempting, but I'm out of points in my class to run a 225 Hoosier. But... if I run a 205 I get 6 points back for the smaller size, then 3 points are taken from going to the R6 from the NT01 so I'll actually be 3 points to the good.

Question - Has anyone done a direct comparison between a 205 R6 and a 225 NT01? The Hoosiers run wide, so there is only a .25" (~6mm) difference in tread width. The car is making 239whp. About 2400# but still taking weight out.

I did a search so obviously the R6 is faster in the same size. Just couldn't find anything for someone going down to a 205 Hoosier from the NT01s. Found out spec miatas are supposedly faster in a 205 Hoosier than a 225 Hoosier, but I"m concerned about trying to put the power down.

I would put money on the A6 being faster in a 205 than the 225 NT01

I have gone back and forth from 205 R6s on both 15x7 and 8, to 225 nto1 on 15x9. IMO a 205 R6 on a 8" is probably faster than a 225/9" nto1. You get 3 pts back as gravy.
Lateral grip was very similar. I've only got 132whp so forward grip doesn't much mater to me. You may have to be a little easier on the go pedal on exit with the smaller patch.

Would you be +0 to switch to 205 A6? Most TT'ers seem to think the A6 is the only tire worth using. Might not be best for your budget...

I think emilio has done direct back to back comparisons of 205 r6 to 225 nt01s. I think he even talked about it in a recent thread about NASA TT / PT.

Hmm, I did some searches and didn't see anything. I'll go back through to try to find it.

The A6 would put me at +0 points when going down in size, but it's somewhat out of budget unless I can win every time to get contingency. The R6s would at least last a few weekends I would think, and I might be able to grab a tire or two in that amount of events.

With the extra 3 points back with R6s, I had planned on doing some FM frame rail braces with butterfly, and the rear subframe cannon brace. Right now, I just have the stock bracing due to no points left. Ugh, maybe next year I'll just go TTS and pull out the credit card.

I currently only have the one set of 9s. Even if I end up getting a second set of wheels, I'd prefer to keep them all matched up.

Don't forget that the R6 will be right at 3lbs per tire lighter than the NT01 as well.
