Would 17s on an NA be worth it if....?
Recently I was visiting the local race shop. They have a TON of used slicks, and sell them for $200 per set. They are from their NC race cars mostly Hoosier R6s 225s. Knowing that I would have a basically unlimited supply of slicks, would this make 17s worth the trouble/viable? I know that as a general rule 17s on an NA is stupid, but Hoosiers for $200 per set is tempting....
I’ve been pricing 245 rivals on 10s and I’m wondering if this would give me more grip for less $. TYIA |
You didn't mention what aspect ratio the tires are, but I'm 99.99% sure you would be looking at a tire greater than 23" of diameter, which means fitment issues all over the place.

He is right. Unless they are 225/35/17 (protip: they aren't) then they will not fit. They are way too tall.

I pickup used SM7 (as in spec miata) hoosiers for that same price and sometimes much cheaper. Look around for a local racer and get to be friends. The fast guys run them 4 heat cycles before making them "second tier tires" for 4 more heat cycles and then blow them out cheap. You can get 12 to 20 heat cycles out of them before they cord or get rock hard. Alignment, racing surface and driving style will dictate weather you hit cords at 12 or 20 cycles.
