1.6 mani down pipe

looking for a 1.6 manifold and downpipe for a 1.6. already have everything else needed for install. was looking on ebay. how bad is the overall fitment on the manifolds and downpipes? also why do all the downpipes have that stupid 4 bolts flange? i need one for a gt28. anyone help me find bot and wont run me 800?

zoom2zoom 11-17-2008 11:50 PM

ESL? Tried posting in the WANT TO BUY FORUM??

Brian-bbc 11-17-2008 11:54 PM

this isnt a wtb thread there chief. its feedback on the mani and downpipes from ebay.

zoom2zoom 11-17-2008 11:57 PM

then post a link to the ones in question, but most of them are junk, hence the cheap prices.

Brian-bbc 11-18-2008 12:03 AM

the cheap prices is because they are out sourced in a place with cheap material cost and labor rates. they are also ordered in very large batches which is how these suppliers can sell them so cheaply. they also just copy other designs on teh market which means no r and d costs. just because its a cheap price doesnt nessicarly mean bad. which is also the point of this thread. to find out if anyone has first hand experience with them. now if they are built badly with poor craftsmanship then thats a different story.

Then post a link to the ones in question because "most" of the stainless ones are peices of shit and will crack and have horrible install/fitment issues.

btw, I bought an ebay mani/downpipe and regretted it. So I went with something better like I should have from the begining.

209miata 11-18-2008 12:47 AM

they SUCK!!!!! I bought the $100 manifold+down pipe and have had nothing but problems. I spent 2 hours with a die grinder just to fit the studs on the head:vash:. Then another couple hours fitting the DP. They dont fit and unless you feel like changing them after a few houndred miles dont buy them. Save your money and buy a known brand. Use the search feature all your answers are there. people on this forum have zero respect for people who ask stupid questions then have been asked many times

sorry to threadjack, but im very curious as well.

eBay Motors: 89-93 MAZDA MIATA 1.6L B6 CAST T3/T4 TURBO MANIFOLD (item 250326434970 end time Nov-20-08 17:39:29 PST)

how are the cast ebay manifolds?
seems like it would be reliable, and since its cast, u have room to port it.
the only problem i would see is fitment.

[edit: i already tried searching but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for, so im thread jacking instead :) ]

urgaynknowit 11-18-2008 05:25 AM

UGH, just buy a begi setup and live a happy life,
most who build their own kit

1. either know alot, and dont mind the normal issues that follow

2. or dont know enough, and think it will save them money (which it probably wont)
this is due to the fact that most dont buy used, they buy new, and most dont know where to scource out the parts
alot of people on this band wagon end up getting frustrated and buy a kit in the end anyway, after spending money on parts they did not need or that broke in the first place

save ur moneys, the hassles, and buy a kit. i promise, it will make ur turbo experience easy

leatherface24 11-18-2008 09:17 AM

brain would fit into #1.
he knows what hes doing. That being said, dude, just get the begi stuff and call it a day. Seriously. Id work on getting the link and injectors in first with a mild tune and then going from there. Look at me, i have a pile of parts just sitting in my garage and I have yet to get those two things in order. I might be doing them today actually though :)

Braineack 11-18-2008 10:05 AM

I don't have the time or effort to mind the issues anymore....

miatamoxie 11-18-2008 11:27 AM

I am so far a proponent of the ebay cast mani. That being said, it's not the best quality casting, and I did have to take a die-grinder to it to make me comfortable with it. Also, there are no downpipes available "off the shelf" that will work with that mani, so you'll either have to pay somebody alot of money to make one up for you (negating the low cost of the mani), or you will have to make one up for yourself (which is what I did) for $50 of materials. Granted, I have steel and aluminum welding ability, so not only was it not an issue for me, but the way I wanted to go about it.

If you've got the ability to weld up an exhaust system, then you already most likely understand why the welded stainless super-thin manifolds will fail in short order. You'd also know that it's taking a chance to buy a manifold from fly-by-night who-knows-who on ebay (which is what I did when buying the cast mani, knowing full well that I am quite likely just throwing money to the wind....luckily for me it hasn't turned out that way).

The other option is to buy from a known-good source that a crap load of members on this site, who are also members of the "been-there-done-that" club, overwhelmingly recomend (BEGi/FM).

People are against ebay crap simply because it is most often that....from ebay, and crap.

As for the specific manifold from ilovetacotaco that hensonator referenced, I've put over 8000 miles on mine without any cracks or issues and had good service from ilovetacotaco, but when I bought it, it was $99, which is a little more attractive.

leatherface24 11-18-2008 12:17 PM

you know what, I think i have one of those crap ass tubular mani's in my closet at home. Its been repaird once already but its for a 1.8. YOu can have it so you can see what youd be getting if you when that route.
