Defroster Electronics and Strikers

Looking to buy the items associated with retrofitting the rear window defroster in an early NA from the dash switch and back.

Also need 1 pair of hardtop side strikers. PENDING

Thanks

I have the side strikers, not really sure what they are worth though....

There isn't a seperate dash switch on my 93 which came with a factory hardtop with defroster. I beleive it activated when you turned the HVAC controls to defrost. I don't suppose you'd want to wait till spring to get the wiring huh? My car is asleep for the winter.

Do you know exactly what bits you need? There is a relay and the wiring pigtail, what else?

Just got off the phone with Southerland Mazda. The 2 strikers and 4 screws are $43.12 total at my local Mazda dealer.

You just need strikers right? Because I should have strikers, bolts and the hardtop latches also.

If u can figure out the exact defrost parts you need... I have them also. Car is going track car... all i know of is the wire on the hardtop and the wire behind the driver seat though..... no buttons in my car for defrost.

I have a '93' btw

Mazda didn't prewire for defrost until 92 and powered defrost through the hvac fan. Each time you turn on the fan, a timed circuit powers the defroster. Sometime later they went to a seperate dash switch.

Since my car's a 91 it's a complete retrofit. All I have is the pigtail. I need the connector that the pig tail plugs into (the car side of the wiring) and dash switch. At some point Mazda offered a combo defrost & foglamp dash switch which I'm looking into. The other items are just a fuseblock and relay that go in the trunk. I would like to have the factory fuse block and relay, but can get generic pieces from any autoparts store. I do not know if there is a timer built into the dash switch or if I will need a seperate timer like in the fan switch controlled systems.

I figure someone is stripping a car for autox and won't need the extra wiring and parts.

That would be me... I'm just not a veteran of Miata builds though... so not 100% sure what you'll need.

I have all the stuff though :p.

Only issue is I won't see the car for a least a week. But, all those things will be coming out. My friend is picking up the strikers for me... so if you needed those quicker... thats doable. I'd ship them to you for like 25bucks... assuming you don't live in like australia.. you know that suburb of atlanta-ish. ;)

Split,

I don't have IM, and I'll take the strikers and 4 bolts if you're really selling them. Are you going to run without a top? I don't need the latches, just the striker plates that mount to the body behind the doors.

I could also use the defroster connector that's behind the driver's seat, but I have no idea if that wiring ties into other harnesses. If I had just the connector with a length of wire after it I'm sure I can make it work.

Paypal ok?

If you aren't in a rush for the defroster stuff... lets figure out exactly what I need to look for... and you need... and I can pull that stuff for you.

Friend found the strikers for me, so we are good for that. Once in my hand I'll get you paypal info, unless you want to do that now and just give me a day or so leeway to get them in my hands and shipping ready.

Ben, dont forget a relay to power the rear defroster. I was doing the same thing on my 91, ended up getting a beater but let me know if you need anything.

I have the dash switch and a relay, pretty much everything you need except wiring. Ill draw it out for you if you remind me next week,

If you have the stuff and know the parts.... feel free to help him out. I won't see the car to pull the defroster parts for a week or so... so yeah...

Loki, do you know if the dash switch has the timer built into it? Or will I need a seperate timer like the 92-93 fan controlled circuit?

Loki047 11-14-2006 11:26 AM

I don't know if it does, The switch does not turn off after a certain amount of time, so unless its power related there is no timer. I was going to get a separate timer unit.
